In a normal market supply and demand effect pricing. It will never go back down.
no it wont likely ever go back down much, thats because china and other countries are gaining millions of new drivers, demand is up, supply is the same. Now perhaps if they would let us drill more in the US and build more refineries we could have lower prices locally, but we simply use way more than we currently produce here so prices stay high. Not to mention they would probably start exporting to get more money from the higher demand overseas. I dont think its simply all greed. If hydrogen or electric cars ever become a viable option prices may come down due to competition, but without nuclear power we still use oil to make the electricity to power the electric car, so you really dont gain anything, lol! Just wait till they start making ethanol out of alge, then we will be all set!

A couple of additional points: A shortage of capable refineries is indeed a problem, and we have some of the best ones here in the US. It's unfortunately not the case that "oil is oil is oil"; some oil is good to precess into gasoline, other oil is good to become car parts or condoms. It's currently an expensive process to turn sludge crude into usable fuel and the industry is more complicated than the media leads us to believe. Daniel Yergin's "The Prize" is a great primer on the history of the industry. [And, if that sort of history interests anybody, "Salt" by Mark Kurlansky gives the history of the world's most valuable commodity before energy/oil was "it."]

I just put 75$ in at 3.29 a gallon ...... 3/4 of a tank ....... i just read something online that 10$ a gallon isn't out of the question by 2020 .... it already is that much in some remote parts of Alaska ..... I would dump the f-150 in a heartbeat if it ever stayed over 5$ a gallon for an extended period of time .... I don't care how nice the truck is .....

I work from home and the wife's car is a Honda Fit for around the city driving. So no, not hurting one bit yet. I figure, when we take the truck out for road trips and such, the extra gas cost is just another bill to add on to the trip expenses. Not a big deal. Hotel and other things hurt more than the cost of gas.

But once the price of everything else goes up (like food, natural gas, etc etc etc...) because of high gas prices, everyone will be hurting. No exceptions.

Gas consumption went down drastically in 2008 after people changed driving habits with the high cost of gas - I'm doing it now..... If there is a good dip down in consumption, prices will fall.

Might never need it, always have to pay for it or you get a fine if you get caught without it. And if you have speeding tickets or bad credit you have to pay more than everyone else, mightve never had an accident in your life but you still get screwed by being forced to pay higher prices. Not trying to pick on ya, just sick of people whining and crying about gas prices, boo hoo, poor me, I bought a 50,000$ truck that gets 15 mpg and now I have to pay 3.20 a gallon to fill it up, however will I survive.
I have to disagree when you say it is a luxury. It's not when you live out in the country with no public transportation around and you have to get to work or the grocery store. Having trucks that get 12-15 mpg that are used for personal use and not work could be considered a luxury. Those people that use their trucks to make a living are getting screwed though. I have a Jetta TDI that gets over 35mpg on a bad day and I'm still not happy about the cost of fuel going up - and diesel is higher that premium right now which doesn't make since because it's cheaper to refine isn't it?

I work at Valero the refinery a lot doing barges, anyway diesel doesn't have any reason to be high it's a demand for it know they can charge those high prices. Gas on the other hand takes a little more especially since they just started taking benzene out of gas, the thing that's crazy is there putting 10 percent ethanol in the fuel which you would think gas would be a little cheaper. Soon it will be 14 precent so your gas mileage will be worst. I've Been loading and discharging ethanol off barges the past 2 years like crazy, the thing that messes that up food prices go up.

On top of worse mileage the ethanol is hurting performance on four wheelers/lawnmowers/snowblowers by clogging them up. My buddy had to have his carbs cleaned twice on his wheeler because of that crap. Our gov if full of idiots.

Yep ethanol will do it! Only 2 things you can do, 1 search for a gas station that sells pure gasoline no ethanol added. 2 purchase some stabilizer for ethanol treatment. Number 1 sometimes is hard to find there's a website that will tell you were those gas stations are.
