Thanks, I am looking at its average from what I can tell. Sure I see it drop to around 2 mpg when I step on it and go up to around 30 coasting with momentum but I'm talking about the number off to the right of that in my "Fuel Economy" display. When I drove off the lot with 12 miles on the odometer it said 9 mpg. Now after 300 miles it says 12.6 mpg.

I think there's something wrong with the gas gauge. The dealer put some gas in it. I don't know how much, but when the gauge read near empty and the "miles to go estimate" was under 25, I filled it up. It only took 25 gallons.

That has to be wrong and that will mess up the mpg computer's calculation in my understanding.

I'll keep an eye on it. What got my attention is somewhere in this forum a person posted a picture of their dash, for another reason, not gas economy, and I saw the average he had and it was over 18.

Time will tell?

it doesnt take much to drop the avg mph numbers down, driving back and forth to work on the expressway with traffic i probly only average 50-55mph, then once you get on the side streets with stop lights and a 30 mph speed limit it drops that mph average down pretty quick!!

heres numbers from another tank, pulling a 2 place aluminum sled trailer with only one sled loaded on it, which should be nothing for this truck since we are talking 1100lb at the max... almost 50mph avg speed also.

234 miles, 4.75 hours, 20.0 gallons, 11.6mpg

Heres numbers from this morning looking at the display, NO towing at all with this tank of fuel so far.

298 miles 8 hours, 19.5 gallons, 15.2mpg, avg speed 37.2mpg

honestly the best tank avg i have had with this truck so far is 15.4mpg

2012 ecoboost 4x4 3.73's max tow, getting 17mpg highway winter with lead foot. and yes they have power, doing 100 (km/hr) catching up to guy on the highway, punch it as you go to pass and by the time you are at the front of a semi you are doing about 150-160! but of course do so at own risk and when safe to do so etc etc.

You are looking at the average from whenever it was reset last.... The number to the right of the green bar that goes up and down is not a true average. If you want to know the true lifetime average, or average per tank. Reset trip a or b and then see what it says after a month or at the end of a fill up. I don't understand why this is so confusing... It's like trucks just came with odometers or something

The number to the right is not your true average. It's only the instant average or average since last reset!

It's not confusing to me. I know what average means. I have not reset the average on my 2008 Taurus since it was about a month old. The average is right at factory specs around 20 mpg.

I can do a manual average like another reply suggested but that to me is just using pencil and paper instead of the computer that's built into the vehicle.

I think I would like to table my question for 500 to a 1000 miles and see if it bares out one way or another.

None of the replies touches on the fact that my gas gauge read empty and it only took 25 gallons to fill it. What's up with that?

Don't some of these trucks have the 26 gallon tank instead of the 36? Not sure which ones, but I know there are some. I think a 2wd SCAB eco has 26 gallons. Getting 4wd adds the extra tank capacity.

Your post made me go out and check my trip odometers... Trip A is the lifetime miles on the truck and Trip B I reset every tank.

Trucks got 13,000 miles on it, Ecoboost FX2 Crew cab with 3:55 rear.

This tanks average: 19.2 MPG

Lifetime Average: 18.3 MPG

I typically run 68 mph on a flat NJ highway for an hour commute to work and an hour back, so results may vary lol.

Truck has TONS of power if you choose to use it, but as has been stated, the heavier your foot, the lower your mileage.

I use Trip A for every fuel up, and Trip B for Lifetime. I've done all my trucks that way.

Last fill up I spent the day hauling ***** everywhere I went, stop to start. GET THE FREAK OUT OF THE WAY, gotta get down the road, burnin fuel kinda day.

so far, 10.5 avg for the first 50-60 miles... yesterday I drove normal all day, probably 70-100 miles, all city and its back up to about 14mpg so far. By the time my tank is done, I'll be back up to 16-17.
