Gas Mileage

Gas Mileage
I know that it is an old topic, but I am new to Ford. I have a 2010, 5.4L, F150 XLT 4X4 SuperCrew. I love it, loaded with everything I need. I even put the remote controlled Roll N Lock Tonneau cover on it. I get 12.5 miles per gallon. i have read that some people get 15 mpg. Am I doing something wrong? Don't get me wrong. I'll live with it, but if I can get better performance, I want that. I will not own any truck other than Ford from now on. Thanks.

I have a 2010 Screw 4x4 with 5.4L It has a Bakflip toneau cover on it, not sure if it helps or not. I have 6000 kms on it so far. I drive mixed hwy and city. I have been getting an average 17-18 MPG. My last tank was all hwy and I got 19 MPG.
I am quite happy so far. I run 87 octane fuel.
I hope this keeps up.

Keep in mind that your gearing and vehicle weight affect mileage. so if you've got a Screw with a 6.5' bed and 3.73 gearing, you'll get worse mileage than someone with a 5.5' bed and 3.55's.

winter gas and gas with ethanol will lower your MPGs, try finding gas without 10% ethanol and you will get 2-3 mpg better. Also when the mix switches to summer gas you will get better mileage. I was getting 16-20 depeding on how i was driving last summer, only getting 12-16 in the winter. I have autostart and let it run for a while and warm up a lot and my current average is around 12.6, but thats lots of short trips, in town driving, get 16 or so highway.

I have a 2009 SuperCrew XLT with a 5.4. I even have 33's and i still get 14.5 at minimum. I have a flowmaster. I used to have no muffler but i got tired of the deafening noise. i have actually seen an increase in the gas mileage since i put if back on. I have right at 28,000 and im running 87 octane. get about 20-21 on the interstate.

I'm getting 16-17 on 87 (winter gas obviously) with a about a 30/70 city/highway mix.
Unless there is something wrong with the OP's truck, I would say the difference is the OP's driving style.
