18-21? Not common with the 5.4 even with the 6 speed. Hwy is 17-18 city is 13-14 and mixed 14-16 depending on mix of hwy/city. That's my experience with that engine. It's a great engine with lots of grunt through mid range. But the newer engines get better mpg that will get your hwy mpg to 18-21 consistently...

So your saying I'm getting about what I should be? Would the cold air intake have any effect good or bad? Is there anything I can put on this truck to help get an extra couple more mpg?

Sorry to say it but someone has to only way for better mileage to sell the truck and get a car. Looking at mpg with a truck is like trying to figure out how to pull that boat with a civic. Trucks don't get good gas mileage end of story.

Here is how they have the cold air intake ran. I thought it was supposed to be placed lower in the engine compartment?

Is this a misprint 275/65/R15 ? If so then your tires are 3 1/2" taller than stock which would dramatically reduce mileage. If it was meant to read 275/65/18 then the difference is only 1/2" and mileage difference would be minimal.

Don't know where some of these guys are getting such high mpg but I have a 2010 4.6 that's my weekend driver. It reads 13-14 on the dash for normal driving and about 18mpg at 65 mph on flat land. My work truck is a 2012 with a 5.0 and it gets about the same. That mpg is said to be about standard for the 8 f150s in the local company fleet.
Moved a coworkers truck that never leaves town the other day and his had 10.5 on the dash with about 500lbs in the back.
The company trucks never haul more than a few hundred pounds and are pure stock.

I have a 10' FX4 with the 5.4. I just put a 2" level and 35s. Exhaust and SCT X4. Went from 15mpg before and now i am getting 11mpg. Probably could get more but its hard when you have an exhaust!!
