FXR Retrofit of Epic Proportions
Whew! Here we go!
Got my FXR kit last night, and my plan was to have another member do them but I oughta get off my ass and try it out myself! I started out with a set of really great shape chrome headlights that I picked up for $125 shipped...but they were paid for by a family member as part of a gift, can't complain there! I will end up plasti-dipping the bezel with a coat of glossifier on it to gloss it up a little. My retrofit kit consisted of 55w ballasts and 5Five bulbs, CCFL kit and 3" lens with a panamera shroud. It's a really sharp looking kit and the CCFL's will look great behind them. So. Here goes: Separating the lens from the housing was a PAIN. IN. THE. ASS. Took me 2.5 hours to get them apart. Ugh. They were in and out of the oven probably 6 times each...but I got them apart and me and the fam almost had a party when the final stretch of lens separated from the housing. Perma-seal is the devil. When that was done, it was onto the fitting. This is where I am tonight. One projector bolted in place, ready for the CCFL and trimmed down shroud. Now I'm going to go sit in the hot tub, I've been standing for 6 hours. http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...0AC724D2EE.jpg http://i1089.photobucket.com/albums/...0AD7D73CE4.jpg |
So you are going to paint it black? I'm thinking about doing this same thang

About the house...thanks, my dad built it all himself 10 yrs ago! |
Don't forget to clean the inside of the lense REALLY good and let the paint dry REALLY good as well. I did my own HD heads and theres stuff on the inside of my lense and a few blemished on the paint. That's what I get for needing my truck and speeding the process up I guess

Yeah I wish I thought of dipping them when I did mine. I might redo them one day, maybe.

Perseverance pays off! Congrats on making progress and having the guts to tackle it yourself. Didn't you have to cut some of the reflector away to fit that FX-R?

more pictures! Im planning on doing this myself! Goodluck! Cant wait for the outcome!

Nice! I bought a spare set of headlights to swap in when I do the FX-R on the FX4, and then the XLT. I'm going to rotate the stockers in...
I'm curious about trimming on the lens as well - did you have to cut it down a bit? My wife is gonna kill me when I fire up the oven on this one... :D |
