Ingot silver is ingot silver, why would it matter if it was an XLT or an FX4?

I realize that Ford calls these flares, but they look more like a piece of trim than a flare....how thick are they?

My point was that I want an fx4, and they come with the black flare piece. The xlt does not come with this.

Someone said that they may not match. So I stated that ingot silver is ingot silver whether its an XLT or an Fx4. So why wouldn't they match?

Oh I misunderstood. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't match, but it sounds like I can't buy them from the dealer painted so I would have to hope I could buy them used.

Go to the paint store and tell them you want paint for an ingot silver truck. They will tell you there are multiple variations and will have to take paint samples out to your truck to match which one you have.

All ingot silver trucks are not exactly the same. Like I said before it depends how picky you are with having the paint match exactly.

This man speaks the truth. The paint code means nothing without the variance that the factory used that day for that color. It will either need to be chipped at a body shop, the VIN will need run to get the variance, or you will need to have it computer analyzed to match it perfectly.

Please, I think we are overthinking this here.....

I have an Ingot silver truck. I ordered a set of take-off flares from a guy in Texas. A random truck, random build date, unknown trim level, etc. Yet, they match perfectly. I also have an ARE cap. I ordered it, gave them the paint code and it matches fine.

Any flares you find on eBay, Craigslist or otherwise will match your truck fine.

Its a truck, not the Mona Lisa.

Like I said, it depends how picky you are. I guarantee I can look at it and tell the difference, especially on a fender flare that is on the truck next to the other silver.

If it didn't make a difference do you think body shops would take the time to match it up? No, they would just have paint delivered.

My factory flares don't match the metal panels which don't match the plastic panels. Go to any new Ford lot and look at the trucks in the sun, the various panels never match perfectly as different panels were painted at different times and probably different locations.
