Lol, if it weren't for the regrets in our 20's to teach us lessons about reality we pay for in our 30's. My first vehicle was a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT when they first changed body styles. Paid $26k with 9.9% interest on that hunk of s**t. After I lost at the track to my sisters Jeep Cherokee with 190k miles on it, I hated that care every day after until I ate being extremely upside down it to trade for a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 with a Hemi at 4.9%. Took me a year of contracting overseas in a warzone to unscrew myself from that poor decision 9 years earlier.

Lol, well said. Agreed, but be careful, when you opinion doesn't align with the herd, you tend to find yourself selectively moderated in order to align correctly with the perceived acceptability of what your opinion should be. With that said, good for him for buying a truck and ignoring others that have paid the price via the same mistakes (I did as well, sort of) Thankfully with youth you are able to pay to play, and then pay for it later on into your 30's and 40's if you do it right. At least you offered constructive advice to refinance immediately, but hey, as long as everyone on a forum congratulates you for buying a truck, and dad has put himself on the line for the future obligations, then this is a good deal indeed!! Congrats, I do want to see pics when you post them up. Enjoy, and look forward to the upgrade in a couple of years when you go with the more practical SCrew.

P.S. I do hope you got GAP insurance on this thing? If you haven't with 5% interest on that expensive of a truck, you will regret painfully if God forbid it is totaled in the next 3-4 years. That is my contribution.

No one disagrees with these opinions. They are just unneccessary. It's pretty annoying when some stranger on the internet acts like your financial advisor and tells you what you're doing is wrong. Especially when you don't ask for financial advice.

You gave him good advice sure, I totally advise refinancing it through an external lender. Ford would only do 6% when I bought mine but gave me $6,000 in rebates because of using them. Refinanced it as soon as title was available to do so through my credit union for 2.19%. Brought the payment down $88 a month.

Where you went wrong in your comment is that you said he was going down a life-long path of debt. You don't know how long he will have the truck, or how fast he may actually pay it off. Thats quite a harsh statement for someone you dont know.

Plus I think about 99% of us will have a life-long path with debt. Most people will almost always have a car payment, or a house payment.... If you have everything paid off, then congratulate yourself and dont think everyone else should be the same.

O.P., you going to tune it? I'd love to hear some times with the Tremor tuned.

He did ask if it was a good deal didn't he? I guess the guy should tell him it isn't, poor investment, bad interest rate, and you would an over zealous fool for buying it? If you ask folks if it's a "good deal," be prepared to hear reality.

Harsh? possibly. Something tells me he is a big boy and he can take it.

You are right it is not certain it will lead to a life of debt but when you have a 72 month loan and readily admit that the vehicle will likely be traded in a couple years due to a family change chances are he will be upside down. We all know these holes can be hard to claw ourselves out of.

He didn't specifically request financial advice but he posted a thread regarding the dollars and cents of buying the truck. It is really so terrible that he got a different perspective on the purchase?

To the original poster...please post some pics of that new truck!

Very well put, and you expressed what quite a few folks were trying to say when it comes to trading this generally useless truck in regards to practicality (not coolness) when life priorities change over 6 years which they are guaranteed to do. I spent a year in AFG clawing myself out of the upside down vehicle hole I feel he has just entered. With that said, I guess I shouldn't care, he asked a question, folks answered, and unfortunately opinions differ when apparently they are not supposed to?
