Default FX-R Projector Retrofit - In Progress - '12 Platinum

I was commissioned by a fellow F150 Forum member to build him a pair of HID retrofitted headlights for his brand new, 2012 F150 Platinum.

He's going with:

FX-R Projectors
Morimoto 5Five DS2 Ballasts
Morimoto 5Five Bulbs (5000k)
Apollo Shrouds with custom shroud extensions
TRS Wire Harness

He wants an OEM appearance, so everything is staying chrome. It's going to look spectacular.

The first headlight assembly went into the oven this evening. From start to finish for just one headlight to be disassembled, it takes me about 2 hours. This includes cleaning all the very stubborn permaseal off the bucket and clear lens.

I use predetermined brackets on the back of the headlight bucket that keep the bucket horizontally level, as it would be on the truck. This helps to ensure the projectors are "clocked" level.

Here's some photos of the first headlight opened up and cleaned.... as well as the headlight bucket mounted with the brackets, ready for some Dremel surgery!!!!

Stay tuned for more updates in the not so distant future.

By the way, the bracket in the first photo, in the top right corner is from the headlight of my Suzuki Boulevard. The bike is also getting a retrofit....but will be delayed until I finish these F150 headlights.

Is this for a Canadian spec vehicle with DRL? Do you have the MotoControl relay? Can you tell me how this reacts with the DRL?

No, they are going to Texas. Whether the owner has his DRL enabled or not, I do not know. He will be utilizing the latest and greatest relay harness from TRS as well as their recently upgraded ballasts.

As long as you use the harness for DRL enabled F150s, you'll be fine. I've installed these retros in 2010 and 2011 Canadian trucks with no issues. When the DRL is on, the ballasts are getting full power direct from the battery.

I'd be interested to know what you're charging for all this and if it includes parts, shipping, etc.

Good looking so far though!

Very nicely done - you're making it look too easy. I have the same retrofit with 4300k bulbs and really like it. I'm going to upgrade to 50 Watt ballasts and 5000k bulbs from TRS though in place of the 35 Watt set up I have now. The FX-R projectors have a very sharp cutoff and work well on the F150.
