What's with the new Chrome Clad wheels anyway? Seems kinda cheap. I've notice that GM has taken this route as well. Does anyone think that they'll really last?

My ex wife has a 04 Durango with chrome clad wheels and they have held up fine so far. Can't say I like them though.

Over glorified hubcap.

I don't like them but they're nothing new. Chrysler has used them for several years now (a testament to their cheapness) and Chevy and Ford have followed now for a couple of years with more models using them every year. Its cheaper to manufacture chrome looking plastic than actually chrome alloy.

I just wish the chrome clad plastic was removable and replaceable. I scuffed one a little and really don't want to replace the entire wheel to fix something that should be so minor.

I like mine as far as maintenance and appearance are concerned. I would say that as long as a manufacturer takes time to engineer a piece well, it will hold up. As far as what they will look like down the road, who knows? I haven't even hit 500 miles yet.
