Default Fuel Filling Issue

Not sure if this was posted. My apologies if it was. Everytime I fill my 36 gal gas tank on my 13' FX4, I fill more gas than the gauge said I used. Usually 2 gallons more. Anyone with this issue?

Don't have this issue. Hope you aren't topping off. The fuel used is an estimate anyways. I wouldn't rely on it to be super accurate.

I'd bring this up to your dealer, 350DGRZ. If you don't want to make a special trip, you can always mention this the next time you're in for a maintenance visit. Let us know what you find out.

Like biff mentioned. That is just an estimate.

Thank for your replies. I failed to mention I did not have this problem with my 12' Lariat.

Mine is usually about .5 gallons off. In the winter when I use remote start it increases to 1.5 to 2 gallons.

That's interesting. My 12' didn't have remote start and my 13' does.

As others have mentioned ... The fuel used is an estimate (at best). Reasons for variance:
  • fuel nozzle -click-off- point. *The fill rate will also affect this (the notch you use to auto-fill). AND ... Do you manually continue afterwards? (which is a VERY BAD idea).
    .
  • ambient temperature.
    .
  • temperature of the fuel tank. *Can vary based upon TOD, if parked in the sun on asphalt, etc..
    .
  • barometer and/or altitude change.
    .
  • the horizonal and/or vertical level of the vehicle when fueling.
    etc., etc., etc., etc..

i have the same truck with the same issue and if you figure mpg on paper you'll find the same problem.

Seems to me that it does not properly calculate fuel used while idling. in the winter when I let my truck warm up (usually while waiting for my daughter's bus to show up), the truck's estimate is farther off than this time of year when I do far less idling (mpg is of by more in the winter too).
