I wouldn't worry too much. As most mass produced products there are those that will have issues and will complain loudly and for every one of those there are a hundred happy and satisfied customers. I had a G2 which is a cheaper version and I had great success with mine. Used it tons of times over 5 years before I sold it. It had a bit of water from the seams on tailgate step but other than that there was no water intrusion.
