A bit disappointed even after they shipped me another one.
I'm so glad i have not jumped on one of these yet. Was really liking these bakflip and roll-x covers, but i haven't seen any good reviews yet.

This always bothers me (nothing against you OPs) ... on BAK's website it claims the BakFlip has a "Contoured water tight fit". It says on another page that BakFlip is designed to "keep the elements out". They also, in writing, state that the BakFlip is "the most water-tight folding tonneau cover in the industry". It might not say "100% waterproof" but that is as close to endorsing your comment as it gets.

We all use our trucks differently and we can't judge someone who purchased their truck wanting the bed to be dry. Why should someone not expect their luggage, groceries, stroller, equipment, tools, or anything else to remain dry after spending $700, $800, $900 and more on a product that explicitly states that it maintains a "water tight fit"?

I'm fully understanding why the OP is upset but less clear about why so many other people defend BAK when they also admit to getting water in the bed of their truck after purchasing a product that explicitly writes on sales page that the product is water tight. No, you probably don't mind since you didn't buy the product with this requirement in mind, but others expect to get what they paid for.

I really like my Bakflip VP. Only the occasional drop while getting it washed (I also don't try to make it leak either). We haven't had hardly any rain out here for quite a while, so it may leak more than I'm seeing.

To the OP do you still have pics of the messed up seal?

Had the same problem with the first Roll-X. The taped seams leaked from day one, and the cover would retain water, such that the felt on the bottom side of the cover would be soaked and when you rolled the cover up (even up to a week after a rain) water would seep out of the ends of the roll.

I called BAK, and they sent me a new cover, rails, etc and I put that one on. The new one looks to be constructed much better, the seams are holding and looks like they are glued or sealed as well. The new one fits better than the old as well. BAK wanted the old cover back so they could inspect the flaws.

So, they are working on it. Like I said, the new one is great and doesn't leak (except a few drops around the man step). I think they had a bad batch of covers in there.

Aren't you helpful and constructive.

Just because someone wants a dry bed means they don't also use the bed for larger objects also? Should we just go buy an SUV *and* a pickup since obviously we shouldn't expect the $900 product we purchased to deliver on it's written promise from the manufacturer? Perhaps I should also get a car for the long drives when I want more than 20 mpg. And maybe a bike for the short commutes downtown in traffic.

I realize you bought a BakFlip also and are just trying to stand behind your product but it doesn't mean you have to be a troll because someone else's isn't working and they shared the experience.

If I buy ANYTHING, I expect it to do what it says it's designed to do. In this case, it's designed and marketed to protect against the elements and promoted as being water tight. Why should we be satisified that it doesn't deliver those results? When yours deteriorates, shouldn't you be able to come out here and share the same experience without some guy telling you that you shoulda bought an SUV.

Don't get all butthurt. Just tired of reading all the complaints on this board lately. Grab a couple brews and spend some time heating all the weatherstripping. The only reason these could leak is if there's a hole in the cover or the weather stripping isn't seated properly. And I doubt anyone's cover has a hole in it...

I want to defend the Roll-X cover. I live here in Tulsa, OK and have owned it since Labor Day weekend. This cover works with no problems. Once I installed it correctly, the clamps that hold the Roll-X rail to the bed was a little problematic. Once I figured out the way it was going to work then the install went very easy. Had my 6YO son help me and he even had a good time with the install.
The performance of the cover is even better than I heard. I had heard water would get into the bed. Yeah I will get a little, less than an ounce, Im talking a couple of small puddles... Is there a word that better describes more than a water drop but its not much more... thats how much water is in the bed.
I have driven thru driving rains and gone thru the car wash-manual type where I use the wand. No major water. I am confident even to put electronics in the bed and not worry about damage.
I dont know what BAK company has with its Quality function deployment within 6S. I would be interested in the number of customer install issues VS vendor based install issues. Would there be an opportunity for the end user customer to visit a vendor to verify the install? How about showing some photos of the issues, maybe the collection of users can make some suggestions? Just some thoughts from an end user.
Good luck.

Wow, I'm surprised to hear about all the bad experiences.

I bought my Roll-X back in late June, and immediately (left the house 1/2 hour after install) drove through derecho (the big East Coast storm on June 29th). Just a few drops got in the bed.

I get more water in the bed when the truck is sitting compared to driving - usually a little up front and a little at the tailgate. Not enough to bother me - the only times I really need to keep water out is when I am on a road trip with my wife and dog, so our luggage is back there.

I would keep in contact with BAK. I recently installed the roll-up straps that hold the cover in the open position, and while tightening one, the strap ripped out of its rivet. Not the female clip riveted onto the cover, but the strap itself. BAK sent me out the female end (oops), but did it quickly. I sent them an email over the weekend, and am expecting a response today.

Good luck to those who are experiencing water issues!

I had the Bakflip HD on my last truck. I really like the looks and functionality of it. I don't think it was 100% water tight, but I that wasn't a requirement for me. Although with some weatherstripping and TLC I'm sure it could be.
