Default After market throttle bodys

Just wondering if there is really a difference between an aftermarket throttle body and the stock throttle body. Im not sure of the size of the stock throttle body. I have a CAI, after market mass air sensor, throttle body spacer, and soon to have a custome tuner and headers and true dual exhaust in my 2010 fx4 5.4l. Thanks everyone.

On my 2011 truck the stock body is 80 mm in diameter. I got a replacement from BBK via Autoanything. Theirs is 85 mm. It was plug and play installation. I noticed the difference right away. 5 mm difference in diameter creates FOUR SQUARE INCHES (!) of additional opening for the air to get in.

Total area: 31.15 sq.in with 80 mm; 35.17 sq.in with 85 mm body. Whoever says 5 mm doesn't make a difference doesn't know how to count! See this calculator (you'll have to convert MM into inches by dividing 80 and 85 by 25.4)

I put a BBK throttle body in my 99 Ranger 4.0L and got noticeable improvements in throttle response with no impact on fuel mileage. Caveat: when I pre-installation checked the operation on the first one I got, the throttle had a serious sticking problem. Sent it back and the next one was flawless.

I dont know if the 2010's are that much different from the 2011 but I looked for a bbk throttle body and their 2010 version is only 80mm. So I dont really think buying a bbk throttle body for my 2010 would be a good use of 300 bucks. Now if my stock throttle body is smaller then 80mm that I definately want to do it but Im waiting until I can find the correct size for a stock 2010 5.4l throttle body.

Just disconnect the air intake hose at the throttle body; or ... give your friendly neighborhood Ford dealer the VIN and they might be able to tell you the size. I know for sure on my 2011 truck the size (stock versus BBK) was different. See this
. I did notice an improvement in throttle response and acceleration.

I can see where exchanging the stock throttle body to a larger size would definitely benefit an Ecoboost.

I shoot vids and post 'em as I make changes to my Ford. I just got word from the gear shop the 3.73 diffs are in, so once I'm back from this Arizona trip in my big truck, I"m going to load the SCT tune from 5 Star and .. go for a ride with the camcorder

RE: the BBK
I think all these small changes add up.. The throttle body isn't cheap but if it's bigger than the stock one in your truck, I'd say it's worth it.
