Front driveshaft and axle spinning in 2wd
#11
I could feel something was off on de-acceleration since it would make an odd sound almost like intermittent tire noise, which obviously couldn't be tire noise if it was intermittent. My guess is the noise/feeling was the failed IWE rotating the driveshaft in 2wd since the passenger side was the problem but I thought it was coming from the driver side almost under the floorboard/steering column.

That makes sense when spinning the wheel by hand. With the engine on and in drive though, the power to spin the wheel can only come from the transmission so either its parasitic drag turning the driveshaft (an abnormal amount?) or there is something causing engagement (half speed engagement?) of the front driveshaft in 2wd.

They are meshed at all times but transfer torque through the spiders to the axles. You should be able to hold the shaft, spin one tire while the other goes in an opposite direction. Of course, if the opposite wheel cannot cannot spin backwards then the driveshaft must turn.

My truck is at the dealer right now to figure out why the front driveshaft and one wheel are spinning in 2wd. I noticed MPG dropping and a strange front end vibration, jacked up the front end and spun the front wheels. The axles spin as they should, but when I started the engine the passenger axle was still locked and spinning the halfshaft. I then put the rear up and put the truck in drive and noticed the front driveshaft spinning along with one tire, but at half speed compared to the rear. Video here: https://youtu.be/g-ZlmuJQfak
Any bets on what is wrong before the dealer calls me up? Posting to help others that may have similar issues, I have 1500 miles left on my powertrain warranty so fingers crossed it's covered!

What hit to mpg did you see? I’m pretty sure the shop that replaced my shocks messed up the hub/iwe system, they had to replace the driver side because they busted it and wasn’t drivable. But I’m still seeing pretty bad mileage. Highway I used to see 18-19 on the lie o meter, now I have to drive like a grandma to get 16 on the highway. My new tires weigh 3lbs more than the old ones so I wasn’t expecting that much of a hit.

How many miles to you have on your truck?
