Snowfiend, was it making noise at all or did you just notice the drop in mileage?
I could feel something was off on de-acceleration since it would make an odd sound almost like intermittent tire noise, which obviously couldn't be tire noise if it was intermittent. My guess is the noise/feeling was the failed IWE rotating the driveshaft in 2wd since the passenger side was the problem but I thought it was coming from the driver side almost under the floorboard/steering column.

IWE and check valve fixed but tech hears noise from the front differential. Getting a tear-down this afternoon to investigate.

That's incorrect. The ring and pinion are directly meshed at all times (unless you REALLY blow it up). Turning one will cause the other to turn also. With IWE's engaged (for whatever reason) the half-shafts are turning, and subsequently so is the ring gear. As a result, so is the driveshaft. It's bolted directly to the pinion, which is directly meshed with the ring. It doesn't matter whether the T-case is engaged or not. -- Remember that with the engine off, vacuum is lost and the IWE's default to the engaged position.-- Once everything is fixed, and with a running engine, you should be able to spin the front driveshaft by hand. The half-shafts will also turn, but the wheels will not.

Update: Front differential bearings were on their way out so it's getting a rebuild.

They are meshed at all times but transfer torque through the spiders to the axles. You should be able to hold the shaft, spin one tire while the other goes in an opposite direction. Of course, if the opposite wheel cannot cannot spin backwards then the driveshaft must turn.

Correct. I was speaking in terms of both wheels on the ground rolling.

Any bets on what is wrong before the dealer calls me up? Posting to help others that may have similar issues, I have 1500 miles left on my powertrain warranty so fingers crossed it's covered!
What hit to mpg did you see? I’m pretty sure the shop that replaced my shocks messed up the hub/iwe system, they had to replace the driver side because they busted it and wasn’t drivable. But I’m still seeing pretty bad mileage. Highway I used to see 18-19 on the lie o meter, now I have to drive like a grandma to get 16 on the highway. My new tires weigh 3lbs more than the old ones so I wasn’t expecting that much of a hit.

It was getting under 12 mpg off from the normal 14 or so. Just got the truck back yesterday afternoon so we will see if the MPG goes up. Sounds much better though.
