Default Front Brakes Shot After 30k miles

Getting my tires rotated by my mechanic. He gets the wheels off and informs me I have only 10% left on my front pads. Is this normal? I don't drive the truck that often, don't ride or stab on my brakes, and make great use of the tow/haul to slow me down when towing. Regardless, I'm going with upgraded pads.

Just a bit shocked.

How much do you trust your mechanic? I've had shops tell me that I need new brake pads when they were only half worn.

It's common for these trucks to have the brakes worn prematurely from what I've read and seen. I have 36k on my '14 and the pads are in good shape, but the front rotors are grooved all up. I will be upgrading in the coming months to some good rotors and pads for the front.

On my 02 the fronts wear out 2x as often as the rear, disc all the way around. My 11 had to have rear pads 6 months ago but fronts are still good, bought it used so will take awhile to find out things.ck your fluid level is a good indicator of pad wear

Mine needed them at 32k. Rotors were warped too. I might be a little hard on the brakes.

After going there for decades, very much. This is the first time I've had this issue on any of my trucks. Also, discovered that the rotors were warped. My guess is the brake pads were likely the cause.

My 11 had no premature brake issues either. Interesting.

Welcome to the club

My 2011 had 45k when I traded it in and I never had brake issues. My 2013 had no brakes left at 30k miles.

Just don't replace with OEM. Use a decent aftermarket brand and you'll be fine. I'm now at almost 70k miles on my truck, 40k on current set of Hawk brakes, and still have tons of life left.
