My truck only unlocks the hubs when there is a vacuum signal. At least on mine, the truck needs to be running to pull a vacuum "2012 model"

Also want to point out that the truck is NOT in 4 wheel drive while switched to 2wd, besides the axles spinning the wheels themselves don't.

Also I can freely engage 4wd when I need it.

No lift kit, truck is bone stock aside from a tune.

From what I understand there is a box of stored vacuum (if that makes sense) that keeps the hubs disengaged when the truck is off.

Engineering run amok.

My local dealer had to fix, when Tire Plaza screwed up my IWEs installing new struts recently! Cost Tire Plaza in Festus, about 700.00 to pay for theyre screw up.
From all I read, my 2010 will lose vacuum when off and when on will create vacuum.

So when off hubs are engaged and on they are not until I use the switch. Maybe it's different for newer years?

Here is a video showing that when motor running it creates vacuum and releases the hubs, no vacuum the hubs engage.

I believe it's the opposite.

I learned this about my truck when I was playing with the toe (back when it was new I had a bit of skittish steering). I put both front tires in the air and noticed the hubs were locked. Not the transfer box but the hubs.

I thought something was wrong until I did some googling and learned I needed the engine running. I tested what I learned and it was right. With the engine running my hubs unlocked. Again, this is on my 2012 platinum. Your mileage may vary.

If I have this backwards then all I can say is my truck is backwards.

Lol, not, the way the vacuum works.

When motor is running, vacuum is applied and hubs are released, no vacuum hubs engaged.

Good video showing how to test.

Vacuum leak if they stay engaged.
