But, then you need to step down from 12V to 5V. I was thinking about using something like a PAC TR7 module, but I haven't looked to far into it.

Yes I know what it is, have one my self to lower landing gear on one of my drones using a sonar sensor.

If you really want the global down/up, you can always go with a custom module designed just for that purpose. Plenty of them on the market.

This particular one is "Intelligent and humanized"

I received my elm327 reader yesterday and programmed my truck with a few new features mentioned in this thread. Thanks to all who have figured this stuff out and especially for Rnlcomp for starting this thread. I've been off the forum for a while and came back to find this jewel.

The brown dirt on the info display startup is pretty cool - as are DRL, NAV override, and bambi mode. For those who have enabled remote start and NAV, this is a major find.

Thanks again for all who experimented and figured this out!!

Which elm327 did you buy, the oph Ford @ $29.99 or the Hain @ $15.99? Also, I am just getting involved in a doner xlt cluster swap from my present stx cluster. My doner cluster has six (6) out of eight (8) different codes from my present cluster, plus gear ratio, and gas tank size. I know I could take to the dealer, but after reviewing some threads, I saw more about forscan. But, I heard this before, all you have to do is, change this and change that on the cluster data. How difficult is it to navigate the software program?

You can get stripped down XLT's that don't have features like backup camera's and parking sensors so most owners wouldn't see any issues with the new cluster. They're not a perfect match but there are no issues that come out of it. If your cluster came with park assist and say 4wd but your truck doesn't have those features, you'll likely get warning lights. That's why you go and change the coding in the new cluster once installed.

Just get in it and start looking around. It's such a small investment overall that you don't have much to lose.

I bought the $29 one from Amazon that Rnlcomp and others have linked. The SW is simple to navigate. If you are leary of it, watch the videos that have been posted. And backup your modules before you start changing things...

It sounds more encouraging since a number of members are doing it. I am not computor illiterate, but am not a geek either. I will have to look up the vidio on forscan. My dealer has given me a ball park price of $250 to remove old cluster and install clone w/ as built data.

For that price you could buy an OBD adapter and a cheap laptop to just to it yourself with Forscan.
