Ford's position on Ecoboost intercooler grilles
Just bought a 2014 and joined this forum for the great wealth of knowledge. I am considering a grille to go over the space in front of the intercooler as its kind of a big ugly hole. There seems to be lots of opinions on whether a grille will obstruct air flow. I see on the new Lariats there is a simple grille with 2 vertical bars, but I would like something more like the Boost Bars that are regularly mentioned here. However these have a lot more surface area and so might affect the airflow.
Does anyone know what Ford's official position is on adding a grille? Perhaps one of the Ford reps on this site (Crystal?) would care to respond.

I thought the 2014's all came with the new lower grille insert?

I added this to my 2013 and it really cleaned up the "big ugly hole", and it's factory so you know it's "supported" by Ford.
As seen here:
Otherwise there's aftermarket "Boost Bars" option which you mentioned (here for reference):

I think like any aftermarket part as long as it doesnt cause another part to fail, and you try to claim it under warranty, you are fine.
Im trying to find something to install in the hole to shield rocks/bugs from getting into the intercooler.

i have the one that has maybe 10 horizontal bars going across and I can tell you that it seems to have zero impact on needed air flow as my intake air temp is always within 1-2 degrees of the outside temp just like it was before I added the grille.
As for what Ford says about it who knows, hell they don't stand behind there product anyway so what's the differences....

How about something like this. Air flow restriction is practically nothing, Got this on ebay.....
