Default Ford Toughbed

Recently purchased a new 2013 FX4 and it came with the factory installed, spray in liner, "Toughbed". The spray in liner is a great option, but Ford didn't put the attention to detail that LineX does. Ford sprays over all the bed bolts and the tie downs, this can be a problem if I have to remove the bed or replace a broken or damaged tie down. When removing them, the seal around the bolt or tie down is broken exposing the metal and increasing the chances for rust.

Anyone else see any other problems with Ford's ToughBed or am I just being too picky?

I wouldn't care about the bed bolts. Linex sprayed over mine too. How often will you be removing the bed??? They did take off the tie downs though, which I thought was important.

Interesting. The Line-X sprayed in the bed of my Z-71 is covering bolts and tie down hooks. Haven't gotten the F-150 sprayed yet but when I do, it's getting Line-X. Covered tie downs don't bother me and if I ever have to remove the bed, I've got serious problem that far outweigh a little exposed metal that should be able to be repaired.

If you tape them off and spray around them, it seems that you would still get cracks around the bolts allowing moisture in.

It wouldn't really bother me whether they sprayed over them or not. I would have thought that the factory spray would have been done prior to bolting the bed in though, so that part is interesting.

That said, my Line-X dealer did remove everything prior to spraying. I was also given the option to have them remove the tailgate protection, (I have the step), if I wanted the exposed metal to be sprayed correctly, but I chose not to worry about the gate.

I have the tough bed liner as well. Doesn't bother me at all that they sprayed over the bed bolts and the tie downs. On mine, I'm really glad they left the bolts clean on the tailgate so I can access the handle assembly though..my last truck was sprayed over all that.

If they took the time to take the bolts out before they sprayed it there would still be cracks around the bolts for water and chit to get in.

When I had my 2010 XLT Line-X'd, the installer gave me the option of removing the bed bolts or leaving them and spraying over them. As there was no extra cost associated with removing the bolts, I had that done. He claimed that if the bed bolts were sprayed over, and the bed ever had to be removed, it would require cutting through the Line-X to removed them. I also seem to remember the bolt heads getting surface rust on them, and was not impressed with that.

It all depends on how lazy the guy spraying is. I always removed the bed bolts and the downs.

Thanks guys, appreciate the input. It's not a big deal, I guess I was just used to Line-X and their removing of the bed bolt and tie downs.
