The new upper control arm is steel and welded the 2013 and lower years are cast. They are dimensionaly interchangeable no need to change the other side out unless it fails. The boot can't be replaced on it's own that's why you got the new arm.

jdm1904 ... OE 2013 New "updated arm" <pic'>
BTW ... The ball joint of the *new* control arm is greasable. Remove the plug and replace it with a 90° grease fitting/zerk.

Not quite Joe that's acutally just a dimple in the housing that holds the components that make up the balljoint. That housing is CnC machined and is not serviceable. The boot is heat sealed on and the grease is injected during the manufacturing process.

You might be able to pull away at the boot and try to put some grease in there but it wouldn't make it to the location it was intended to be.

I can't post pictures since the manufacturing process is intellectual property but you can take my word on it that the ball joint itself has not been designed for any aftermarket repairs.

Blowed-up it appears to be a typical hex' remove-it-for-zerk plug.

May be true for OEM, however, not necessarily so for aftermarket (e.g. MOOG) parts.

Aftermarket possibly defiantly not OEM. The dimple is actually no longer there at all on the latest engineering change I went and looked at the ones being manufactured today. Same applies to the lower control arm.

While I haven't looked at my truck on a lift, my 12' Econoline had plugs in damn near everything underneath, I installed a dozen or so zerk in the OE stuff underneath.

It would bug the **** out of me if they were different. And then again, if I put a sticker on the back glass, I need to even it out by matching the other side. Im wierd like that I guess. I just like EVERYTHING to be even and the same ;(
