There really is not that many moving parts to stop anyone from tracking down this noise.
Maybe it's my sense of entitlement, but I feel like I shouldn't have to troubleshoot my BRAND NEW truck the day I drive it off the lot. I feel like Ford should have done that BEFORE they took $40,000 from me. Just my $0.02.

Ya I have this too on three of my trucks. But not on all the other ones. That's why I thought it was an issue, cause its not happening on all of them. Ford said its normal.

i have this same thing happen to me with my 11, my buddy at the ford dealer told me its because the splines of the driveshaft and the splines of the tailshaft in the transmission, when you put it in drive it forces the splines one way then when you put it in reverse it pops the other way. he said to fix it you have to drop the driveshaft and grease the crap out of the splines and it takes it away, supposedly it is worse for those who have the two piece driveshaft. i havent gotten around to dropping the driveshaft and trying this so do hold me to it lol just trying to give some advice that i was told.

Mine clicks going from drive to reverse, but I'm pretty sure I know why. My back brake pads have up and down play.can grab the pad and freely move it up and down, all the shims are there, they just don't hold them tight in the caliper. Basically I can wiggle the pad up and down- click. Having dealer check next visit.

This is unbelievable. 44+k and our trucks sound like garbage?!?! No answer from Ford and certainly no urgency from them either!!! We need to do something now!!!

People get in my truck and say "What was that?" Its so damn embarrassing!!! this!!!

Could this sound also cause some vibration at about 75-80? My truck seems to do that now that I started hearing the sound. Could be unrelated...I need to have the tires checked...only have 7700miles.

I'm pretty sure mine is not brake pads or the driveshaft and that it is something in the rear.
Could be wrong though - should find out later in the year once I can leave it with the dealer for a while.

At about 18k miles now and the noise is exactly the same, just happens more frequently.

Hi,

I have 2012 XTR Screw 5.0 3:55 only had it a month 1200KM's
yes mine does it once in a while I noticed more on a grade when parked its really loud, but going from forward to reverse sometimes it does it. Not all the time, it does sound like whena U-joint is wore out or loose!! Its seems to be all good under there tho......so yes its starting......

Yesterday we were Parked on a very steep grade facing downward, had the E brake on, and wow when took it out of park it sounded soooooo loud like something was going fly apart from under the truck drive shaft related sounding........maybe the grease in the splines is the answer, and take the friction away......

Really!!!!!!!..... brand new truck and issue's........other then that I love it so far!
