I never really worried about mine but would only get the noise during low speed downshifts and under load in reverse. Although it was fixed a half dozen times it just clicked and popped really.

I solved it for good when I got my 2015............so far.

I remember you talking about this in a PM you sent me. I just recently replaced ALL four brake disc and pads with Power Stop Z36 kit to get rid of the chitty Ford warped OEM discs and guess what....

....no more popping and clunking noises like I had before every time I threw it in reverse.

While I did not grease the pins like you have, I did back off on the E-brake adjusters to get the rear disc/drum off. I truly believe that you are correct that the noise is generated by the rear E-brake hardware and will look there if it ever comes back again. I'll grease the pins too.

Oddly enough mine stopped doing it around 45,000 miles. I haven't heard it since...

Mine does this exact same thing> almost sounds like someone thumping the tail pipe PING.
I've changed wheels and its done it with my stocks and aftermarket. I believe there is a service bulletin about the oil flinger for the pinion bearing and I'm going to check into it a little more. its really starting to bug me. and trust me the way my 5 star tune shifts with the 93 race tune i drive on everyday ... if something was going to break it would have already. that first to second shift at 6900 and even that second too third shift should have found a weak point barking these 35's lol

This is a noise only No actual adverse condition has been found other than the noise.?

Mines done it since I've owned it and it rather not have them open my rear end up and cause more problems just to fix a thin little tiny oil slinger on the pinion shaft.

Arrow Was TRANSMISSION 5th gear burned out

Mine was after almost 100,000 miles they finally open the transmission and found out that 5th gear was burned out and in such causing the slack in the drive shaft/transmission and the clunk was from that.
took almost 2 months to fix (had a rental Ford paid for because after 4 years or so these ‘experts’ had never looks at the transmission)
anyway got it fixed right under warranty because it was like months away and miles away from being past the 100,000 miles given.
now, I got rid of my nice looking but wimpy 2011 F150 with a 3.7L normal V6 2wd and went to a 2018 Ram 4x4 5.7L Hemi because I tow a 29’ 5th wheel (6900 lbs dry).
i didn’t want to get rid of my Ford because I had it for 7 years but I needed more power and honestly Ford and Government Motors (GM) have gotten so expensive that $65000 or more for a truck is normal.
anyway check the transmission insist it’s the transmission and they have to open it up and look, not go by a computer diagnostic.
