Well success was short lived. Popping and cracking is back loud as ever. Freaking ridiculous that I spend this much on a truck and 6 times in the shop time loss from work and now have to take it again. Die hard Ford man but wondering if I should check one of the other brands out.

To all who have this issue, have any of you spent the $700- 800 on an aftermarket driveshaft and seen if that solves the issues?

What about a carbon fiber drive shaft?

Not that it's a logical solution, but it would be cool.

You shouldn't have to get aftermarket parts to eliminate a sound that shouldn't exist to begin with, of course, but it is a good question.

Yes, it didnt change a thing... sent the custom shaft back for a refund a week later.

Now I had the latest TSB performed over 3K miles ago and no sound has reoccured. I wonder if this fix is only as good as the mechanic? I may swing down there tomorrow and ask him what his secret was to making this noise go away so I can let all you peeps know.......

note: i do have a snugtop on the back so i wonder if the added weight is effecting the noise from not recurring if we are talking angles, variables and such?

Waste of time posts by Ford reps, stop wasting everyone's time your a glorified call center rep that cannot change any result. You only help is in booking an appointment with a local dealer rep, if anyone cant do that on their own dime they should not buy new as the warranty would not be worth the recycled paper its written on. Ford reps in forums bring no benefit but to boaster numbers.

I took my truck into a different dealer (Lincoln) for the 3rd try to fix this. The mechanic there did the oil slinger replacement, shimmed it and replaced four bolts. It has been 2,300 miles and the noise has not come back yet. I am right at 55,000 miles.

I'm not sure if this is exactly my issue, but I am now experiencing a snap or a pop noise when shifting into reverse, much more pronounced in the morning when I go to work. It doesn't do it unless it's been sitting for a bit.

Lucky,
That is exactly how this all started on my truck. Only kept getting worse.
I can't remember how many times they have repaired mine now and it has to go back again.

I am more than fed up right now and have been more than patient since I started this thread a long time ago.......

well after my 10th visit to the dealership with only 15,000 kms on the truck with several problems including this noise, they performed all the tsb's on it with no fix so this morning they replaced my driveshaft and the noise is finally gone. Hopefully it stays away.
