I wish they would just make a pass through system where your phone is plugged in and the Ford screen is a slave with the buttons controlling the features of the phone.

In the future can I just get an F150 with NO os in it? I can see it now...the os crashes and renders your truck useless because it runs vital components in the truck which run the engine. You`ll have to call Geek Squad to fix your truck and not a mechanic!

If it's android just do a battery pull, you should only have to do it a few times a week!

Course on the apple version they seal the hood shut and putting in non-apple certified gasoline causes it to fail to start. It will also require a special gas pump because it is too good to use the same plug as every other vehicle and to prevent you from using non-apple gas.

Also, when it does crash you never really know it because it just restarts and pretends nothing ever happened. If you ever discover a verifiable problem, you are told you are holding it wrong.

Call me crazy but I rather have a closed system in my car than one that can be murdered by malware...lol. Though I am sure the car version of Android will be much different than the phone. Same with iOS.

When I read this I was ecstatic. Not for the loss of Microsoft, no, but for the partnership with Blackberry. I've read up on their in-car systems and they are winning praise. Apple needs to step up as Android and Blackberry are making sharp ingress into in-dash solutions.

I drive a BMW and my mom drives an Audi. The audi system BLOWS and so does Idrive in BMWs. While sync is slow, ultra unresponsive and laggy, i feel there is a better option for ford than whoever manufactures these systems. not to mention in Audi and BMW, they're all controlled via click wheel and not touch screen.

Me too. Closed systems are generally more reliable and more secure than open systems.

Now my rant...

I hate when people say Apple is proprietary. They are no more or less proprietary than anyone else. Ever try to use a Dell laptop cord with an HP? Or replace some of the many proprietary parts in a name brand desktop? Or God forbid one of those new iMac ripoff all in one PC's. Yes they use a unique connector in their phones. So what? So did many phones before them. And it's so good the USB spec is coming up with their own version.

On the PC thing, Apple is really no more proprietary than anyone else. The Macbook Pro I'm typing this on has memory from Best Buy, a no name battery from China via Ebay, a hard drive resurrected from a USB drive. My iMac has a Samsung display hooked to it and when I upgrade the RAM it will be some off the shelf stuff from eBay. And it has been like that before. My 1st Mac, the iLamp iMac had IBM laptop memory in it I got for free from work.
