Issue: Ford Remote Access app review

The Ford Remote Access app is available for both IPhone and Android users to control vehicle features. The app lets you remote start, remote stop, lock, unlock, audible car find, and there is even an optional feature to receive security notifications.

Read to find out more:
  • What, if any, are the costs associated?
  • Do you have to go to the dealer?
  • What hardware is compatible?
  • How well does it work compared with aftermarket devices?
  • What models are compatible?

This is what I was thinking, although I'm hoping that this is primarily controlled through the 'sync' computer and doesnt require too many other add-ons.

Now if only someone can provide the part #'s......

I'm really excited FORD is producing something like this. This was my ONE hesitation with going with a factory remote start (having the ability to remote access through a smart-phone).

My guess is they'll "install" a tiny little box with cellular connectivity. Hopefully it's not too invasive, hopefully it's takes the cellular signal and triggers the RF on the remote antenna, instead of pulling the radio and burying it back there. Because it's a cellular device you know they'll knock you on the head with a subscription to keep it alive.

If they nail you for a monthly fee, is the hardware free? Doubt it.

Will the install be free? Doubt it.

I wonder if a reflash will need to be done. If so, no user installs may be possible.

I would expect if you walked in to dealer parts counter or service they'll look at you like you're from Mars if you asked about this.

I'll just keep an old phone in the truck, I can call it and use my fob from anywhere in the world to unlock, lock and start up. It's true, I found it on the internet.

Per my dealer, $649 installed. It apparently comes in a kit form. The scope of work is based upon you already having a remote start on the key. I'm not sure if the price goes down if you already have remote start? I'd hope so because that's pretty expensive for the hardware. Apparently the literature is first being shipped to the dealers so it'll be a few more weeks before the numbers can be firmed up. This is a third party app that's being endorsed by Ford. I checked "SpinDance"s website and they do show a snap shot of the app screen, but provide no information on it. The dealer does confirm that there will be a $50 annual fee.
