Issue: Ford Remote Access app review

The Ford Remote Access app is available for both IPhone and Android users to control vehicle features. The app lets you remote start, remote stop, lock, unlock, audible car find, and there is even an optional feature to receive security notifications.

Read to find out more:
  • What, if any, are the costs associated?
  • Do you have to go to the dealer?
  • What hardware is compatible?
  • How well does it work compared with aftermarket devices?
  • What models are compatible?

PM me if you’re still having problems. Just went through this on a 2011, and also wrote a post on it here, but happy to help you!

Thanks. I got it working. Sometimes it tells me it cant connect though. Mostly just to unlock/lock the doors. Seems to always start/stop when i tell it.

Ive gotten that also once or twice, but works almost all the time. Also noticed there’s a limit to the number of times you can start/stop in a row before having to use the key. Perhaps to validate?

No, the least likely is Android with all of it's security holes.

iOS updates should be taken as soon as available.

Don't you realize that more holes to patch means you should patch them faster? But who cares about your straw man. The problem with Apple's x.0 updates is they ruin older phones. Every. Single. Time.

Wait for x.1, save headaches.

$210 Canadian is $164 US, which is high, but not ridiculous, to install both modules, activate Remote Start on the truck, and turn on the cellular service. An experienced installer could do it all in less than 1/2 hour, most dealers charge an hour.

Question Do all OEM starters have Remote Access?

I’m buying a 2015 (Explorer, sorry to crash the party but figure it prolly uses the same Ford starter maybe?) that has a dealer installed Ford remote starter. I’ve always just done aftermarket DEI/Viper systems and LOVE the SmartStart I have on my current vehicle. From what I’ve seen, Ford’s Remote Access looks similar. If there is already a Ford starter in there, what if anything needs to be done to use Remote Access? The dealer site lists the item listed below for $350, is this a whole remote starter or is this just what is needed to activate Remote Access? If I can drive off with this working I’d be ecstatic, I just want to know what I need to ask the service dept to do to get this going, TIA!!
