Ford Remote Access app for smart phones

The product being discussed in this thread is "Remote Access" - it's been available for several years and goes back to the 2009 pickups. It was engineered by Audiovox who also makes some of the other components in the factory alarm system. It adds a VSS (shock sensor) and a cellular modem which is controlled from the web or smart phone app. It's been available several years and is also available for the latest model trucks, but I think the VSS has a different part number. It is also available for other Ford Products, the Fusion and Explorer for sure, I'm guessing the Mustang too, but may require a different VSS - it is all plug and play.
There are also products that give longer range for remote start, but are not cellular based. I don't know their install procedures, but some come with a two way remote - you can get a some information I think like tire pressure and fuel level, but they aren't a cellular based product and still have a limited range.
Not sure if some of these products are being confused or not - but the Remote Access has been around for a number of years.
There is a new "Connect" product only available on 2017 pickups and offers cellular connectivity to the truck and and a brand new product that is retrofit on older models just announced, but not available from Ford (looks like it might be available from Verizon) that is also cellular based that adds additional functionality from a smart phone/internet for older models - Verizon says back to 1996 in some cases.

We may not know Mustang details here, I certainly don't.
Thought I'd update...it was back below freezing last night, woke up to 13deg. App did not confirm, so I gave the RS command again, still no confirm. When I checked on the truck, it was running.

That's what I have found happens about 90% of the time, the command works but can't be confirmed.

YesterdayI did a remote start and actually got the confirmation, I was excited, this morning it started with no confirmation, even locking the doors won't give a confirmation.

This service seemed pretty stable but boy lately it is really poor. Hopefully they get these infra issues sorted out soon.

All of the connectivity errors and "network" trouble as it has been described doesn't make sense to me. Knock on wood - in Dallas, I've yet to have any kind of problem in the past few weeks. This devices uses cellular service from ATT. Your phone uses either Wifi or cellular service depending on your location. If there were network or cellular problems for this device there would be other widespread complaints of issues with cell phones in general. It's hard for me to buy their "network" trouble as I think some of you have described it. Also - just a note - are all of you that are having trouble in the North? I looked at the location under your name, seems maybe everyone having trouble is somewhere up North, although I didn't look back beyond the current page.
