Issue: Ford Remote Access app review

The Ford Remote Access app is available for both IPhone and Android users to control vehicle features. The app lets you remote start, remote stop, lock, unlock, audible car find, and there is even an optional feature to receive security notifications.

Read to find out more:
  • What, if any, are the costs associated?
  • Do you have to go to the dealer?
  • What hardware is compatible?
  • How well does it work compared with aftermarket devices?
  • What models are compatible?

for those having issue have you tried logging into their web page

https://my.fordremoteaccess.com/login

and starting your vehicle from there? It should at least help figure out whether it is on your phone's side or the vehicle side.

also to someone else's question I believe the carrier is ATT in the US.

Nope, still not working. Wondering if I have a different issue.

Mine did work perfectly for a year, loved it. Can't wait to get it working again.

Default What is needed if I have remote start already?

I am sorry if this is covered already but this thread is very long and goes in many different directions.

I have a 2013 Lariat that came with Remote Start as part of the Convenience Package - so it is integrated into the key FOB. This system's range is nothing short of crappy and was interested in the Remote Access system to control it via my phone. I am aware of the yearly fee. My dealer tells me that this requires a completely new and different system - and it will be $699 to get it installed. Based on other posts I don't believe this is truly the case but he insisted it was. I have not been impressed by my dealer in the past so can someone set me straight on what is needed?

1) Do I truly need a whole new system and thus my current system is just disabled and not used?

2) If it isn't a new system - what are the part #'s I require? and what specifically do those parts do?

Thanks in advance for any help.

You should be able to use both systems. You can easily install it yourself. Do some double checking but you might only need the "RMU" Cell Phone Remote Start Module (DL3Z-19A390-B) and not the VSS too......you'll need to check though. Here's a link to the system install.....https://www.f150forum.com/f38/remote...ss-rmu-276740/

Since you have the factory installed remote start system this is what you need:
1) remote access kit part # DL3Z-19G364-A
This is where I bought mine:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/350950539631

2) this is a plug and play system, install it yourself. It takes about 20 minutes, very simple.

Here are the installation directions, scroll down to the F150 directions:
http://www.fordservicecontent.com/fo...k3-15-2013.pdf

3) Go to your dealer and have them activate the remote access system by providing them the sim# your kit came with, that process will generate a 4 digit pin# that they will give you. The dealer does NOT need to plug their equipment into your truck it's all done over the web.
This process takes 5 minutes.

4) Download the app to your smartphone and enter the sim#, the pin#, email address, phone # etc and you will now have 3 free days of use..

5) Go to the remote access site, create an account, log in, this is where you pay for your subscription. $50 bucks/year

The dealer wanted $800 to install this system, I saved over $400 bucks doing it myself.
If you have any questions just ask

What are the criteria used to determine with you need the VSS or not? Thanks.

Not sure, I was wondering that myself. I know the p/n I referenced was the complete kit. Ford discontinued that kit and now sells the components separately like your links..
Mine is installed in a 2014 Ford Edge sport, and the other one is in my buddy's 2014 F150 FX4.
Same exact kit fits 2011-2014 Ford Edge, explorer, Taurus and F series trucks.
The F series was installed on the passenger side where the TPMS module is located

depends on the system you have and it sounds like you have the 100 series (so i am guessing you will need the VSS)

from everthing i've read the RMU NEEDS the VSS

roll down the window - lock truck with your fob, wait a minute and hit the steering wheel - the VSS is a shock sensor if your alarm goes off then you have the VSS and you can simply plug the RMU into it -

edit also since you already have the remote start - there's no need to go to the dealer. all they do is turn on the remote start functions in the IDS
