Issue: Ford Remote Access app review

The Ford Remote Access app is available for both IPhone and Android users to control vehicle features. The app lets you remote start, remote stop, lock, unlock, audible car find, and there is even an optional feature to receive security notifications.

Read to find out more:
  • What, if any, are the costs associated?
  • Do you have to go to the dealer?
  • What hardware is compatible?
  • How well does it work compared with aftermarket devices?
  • What models are compatible?

another thing is the sleep mode is a PITA (you have to use it within 2 days or you have to physically use the key )and I haven't figured out how to override it. Do you know anything about it??

This is great you found someone to do this! Unfortunately, if (like me) you didn't already have remote start, you'll still have to go to the dealer to get the menu activated. This can not be done remotely...

Not sure about can not connect issue. Being it's all cell phone based either truck or phone perhaps doesn't have a good signal. I would call the tech support at mykey. Not sure how to override the default sleep mode. You can wake up remotely but it takes like 12 hours or something to process.
If I'm at the airport for a week I'll just wake up the day before I arrive. Maybe unlock and lock every few days if it's sitting to keep it active but it will run down you battery if it sits too long.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

That's correct, without remote start already with the dash info screen active you will be headed to the dealer.

The only thing that resets the 72 hour countdown is a cycling of the key in the ignition. Even remote starting at hour 71 won't keep it from going to sleep. To schedule a wakeup, you have to give it 24 hours notice (it then has a 2-4 hour window of when it will wake up) and the wakeup only lasts for 12 hours. I think it wakes every 4 Hours just long enough to make contact with the server to see if you've scheduled a wakeup, which is why the times are approximate. It does however give you an app notification 24 hours before entering sleep and again when it does enter sleep, so you always know the status. It also will still alert you to vehicle alarm activations while in sleep mode.

If this is your daily driver, you will probably never see sleep mode.

PWs-Thanks for the detailed explanation of the sleep process. It makes sense and only becomes an issue if sitting more than 3 days. So based on the 72 hour countdown even letting the truck sit over the weekend won't be an issue.
I assume the 72 hour is only for the remote access app. If its in sleep mode you could still use your original key fob to remote start if you are within the maximum 6 cm's from the vehicle.
I understand it takes a cycle of the key actually in the ignition to wake if not done through the scheduling system on the app.

So I take it there is no way to adjust or shut this feature off? Granted, as stated if it is your DD or even if you take a flight for the weekend if isn't an issue but the system is useless for the one that work out of town all week. I understand why they do it but again if you could choose to do it in a setup screen such as the remote start 5, 10, 15 or off then it would cover everyone. Now I know that if it went beyond the 72 hours that is could drain the battery but that is exactly why I installed a aux battery so I could get at least 2 weeks of run time without using a milliamp of the trucks battery. It would be nice if these companies got on board with the concept of *user friendly* instead of this is the way you use it or else!

It doesn't appear there is a way that I have found. I even searched the Car Link product which is the same as ours to see if someone was able to hack that system but there is nothing in Google about it.

I'm in the same boat as you as my business trips usually have me out for 4-6 days at a time. But if you make it a point to schedule a wake up the night before you return chances are you will be fine. I'll be testing that process over the next few weeks to see what I can expect when i schedule a wake up. If it gives you another window of 12 hours that will be plenty for me arriving back at the airport the next day.
There are a few folks that could benefit on an adjustable sleep timer. I would venture to say that the majority of the buyers of this accessory don't have an aux battery and Ford would be inundated with irate customers returning to new vehicles with dead batteries from a parasitic bleed from the remote access unit.
Guess we just have to enjoy the things it can do and accept the things it can't.

Yeah that is why I said I understand why but take the remote start information screen,,, I can see why they have 5, 10 and 15 but why have an off? If you bought the remote start wouldn't you want it on?
Besides when you read anything in the manual they always Note things as warning,, so they would say,, setting the unit beyond the 72 hours may cause you vehicle battery to drain and not start. But I agree, it is what it is and we need to use it like it is! That is why I hack (if possible) most of everything I use or have so I can have it work the way I want it too... That's why I say it would be nice to be *user Friendly* which would give you more control. Still for most it will do everything and more than they want...

Danny, did I understand you correctly that you had the remote installed from factory which was the (100 series)? and that it does work with the 100 series remote start or the unit you bought was the 200 series with the app system? The reason I didn't want to go with the system is I heard it would NOT work with the 100 only the 200 series so I wasn't interested. But if it will work with the 100 series then I may go forward with it,,, of course always trying to find a way to hack that 72 hour deal!
