Default Ford Installed Remote Start

Hello,

I am not sure if this is the correct place to post this thread so if I am wrong please move it to the correct thread section.

I am wondering if anyone has a Remote Start that Ford installed?

Sometimes when I go push the buttons to make the remote start activate the truck horn will honk once and the truck does not start. I can try it again and the same thing happens. The only way to make the truck start is by going to the truck and starting the truck with the key. After I start the truck with the key everything goes back to normal that the remote start works again... for a while.

I have called Ford and they said they have no idea why the truck wont start.

Do anyone have any idea why this happens and does anyone have any idea how to stop if from happening?

Thanks

Same here. Its a joke of a remote start. My 2008 crappy Dodge Ram was 100% better. I absolutely hate Ford's with a passion.

If possible I would rather not get it from Ford and install an aftermarket one. But last I checked models like the KR automatically comes with it regardless.

But does anyone have any idea why it happens? It has happened to me there times now and I have only had my truck for one and a half months.
I have found that it happens when its cold outside and once when I was parked on a hill. I don't know if that has anything to do with it does that sound like the reason why it wouldn't work?

You only have a few seconds to perform the remote start operation... I think 3 seconds, and the buttons have to be pushed hard and quickly! If not, the horn will honk, signaling remote start failed. Now, if more than 2 remote start operations are attempted and no remote start has taken place, you must go to the vehicle, insert key to reset the operation. If you don't do this, no remote starts will be allowed for a certain period of time.. I think up to one hour, if you don't reset. This is loosely translated from owners manual...a wealth of knowledge!

Edit: or the battery in the IKT could be bad, defective, or low on juice...hope this helps!

My 2011 did the same thing and I did notice it more when it was cold. It pissed me off because that's when you really want it. Never got it fixed and hasn't happened yet on my 2013. I do remember my 2010 with the separate fob was much better and greater range. And before anyone starts I read the owners manual and I'm familiar with the instructions on the back of the key lol.

Mine does the honk-instead-of-start thing on occasion. It happens to me when I have had the hood open while the truck is off. If after closing the hood my first start attempt is via remote, it honks. If I have used the key to start in the interim all is well.
YMMV of course.

Aftermarket is always the way to go with remote starts. My factory remote start on both my Ram and Chev were garbage. Basically had to be within 50' and point right at it. And still have a world a troubles with it.

Got an aftermarket one in my XLT, claims to have around a 1 mile range and works every time.
