Default Ford factory alarm

I just got a 2011 Lariat and when I was signing the docs the dealer tried to sell me a alarm for $500. I declined. Now I'm thinking of going back for it. What I want to know is the alarms at this dealer are apparently pre installed so when I told then I didn't want it they drove the truck around back and in less than 5 min they had it removed. This is a factory alarm. Who has gotten this alarm and how much did you pay? Do you like it? I'm thinking they are over charging me. BTW I think this is only for the 2011's.

If they removed it it was not a factory alarm. It was a dealer add on which is typically way overpriced.

I have the Ford accessory alarm with remote start. I paid like 150 for the parts and I paid the tech 50 to install it. I am really happy with it.

For that much, just go get a nice aftermarket alarm with remote start that will be way better than the ford version.

How is that? What options make the aftermarket alarm better?

im looking at the viper 5901. 2 way with remote start for about 450.
just make sure u go to a reputable installer because this involves going into alot of the wiring of your vehicle. alot of soldering tapping into other wires etc. u get a cheap install u could easily mess up ur wiring system.

You can hook it up to raise or lower your windows when you arm it, you have more options as far as proximity sensors, back up sirens, alternate battery back up ect..

Also an aftermarket alarm with starter will have far better range and 2 way capibility. You can set it up to run heated seats, defrosters, ect. when you start the truck.

Like I said, for that cash I would definately go aftermarket!

I highly doubt your dealer would disable your factory anti-theft system seeing as how it is a standard safety feature and you paid for it in your original MSRP. That would be real shady and probably illegal. Sounds like some crap dealer add-on which have huge profit margins and you never "get what you pay for".

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the factory system consists of the horn sounding and lights flashing if a door is opened while the system is activated/doors locked. Also an electronic immobilizer of some sort. Is there a way to test if the OP's factory system is still intact?

Found this in another thread to test if your factory system is working.

I don't know if the alarm behaves differently with broken glass, etc... (I'm assuming not).
