Ford factory alarm

I have the new OEM 200 series, it's a plug in. New for 2011. You don't need installer for this. Just needs to be activated at the dealer. It also works with your indash information screen.
$290 dollars plus what ever they charge you at the dealer to get it activated.
I got charged $130 for 10 mins of work.... too much..

Senior almost
The alarm discussed at the dealer in question is a dealer ploy to sell you something that was not a factory option on the truck. He removed an alarm installed at the dealer. It is a fairly cheap alarm in most instances like this. They have a guy that goes araound once a week and adds the alarms to every new vehicle. Then at finance time they try to up sell you on the fact it is already in and it is cheap just adds a couple bucks to your payment so why not. A lot of people fall for it so it is a killer profit margine for the dealer. It is not a factory alarm, it is any aftermarket low priced system that they buy and get installed for under 100 dollars. Then sell it to you for 200 and double their money. It is not likely ever a viper more like a command track or some other low budget that works for the warranty period, then the dealer charges bucks to fix it after the warranty ends. I almost say its a scam, like a threat we will remove it if you dont pay for it... But to each his own, the dealer wants to make money....

OK so I have an 2011 XLT without Navigation screen or the perimeter alarm. I do like the factory key fob.
Will the add on perimeter alarm install on my truck without issue? Is it a good deal for the money? I do like the idea of a better model perhaps 5901. I have had alarms in the past where the glass breakage detector was adjustable and I could choose the best location for the shock sensors or even have multiple shock sensors. Does the factory perimeter alarm have these features? Help I already typed all of this and it is too late to dig out the owners manual.

I was under the assumption that the vehicle came with the factory alarm and they could activate/deactivate it with a tool they plug in under the dash. This is how it was done on my 05 ranger. At the dealer for a service on day the tech plugged in and turned it on for me. I'm thinking the 2011 trucks are the same

I'm confused about the Alarm
I am completely new to this forum and this thread caught my eye. Does the 2011 lariat come standard with an alarm system or is it an option? I assumed the horn sounding after I hit lock on my remote indicated there was an alarm system activated...is that correct?

My lariat horn beeps after the second push of the looking button on the remote so I think it has an alarm. Alarm is not listed on the window sticker.

One time push or two time push on the remote doesn't make a difference on my truck except it sounds horn after you push the button twice. Truck still arms after 20 seconds once you hit the lock button. The stock alarm doesn't have the shock sensor unless you got the upgraded alarm on it.

Gilroy is right. That 'car alarm' is one of the biggest scams in all F&I dealer offices, along with scotchguarding the seats, undercoating, and extended warranties. All are designed to separate you from your money right before closing, and the alarm is garbage anyway. Search on here - there's a guy who posted a picture of the two screw holes where his cheesy dealer mounted the thing under the steering wheel.
Crooks.
Spend your money on a good aftermarket alarm if you want, but with the PATS, it's almost not worth it... who looks at a car alarm going off these days anyway?

Guys the truck come with the regular engine immobilizer alarm.
But Ford does have an alarm called code tech or something like that. (of course dealers install aftermarket one but FORD has one too)
When I bought my F150 they wanted to charge me for it and I told them to take it out. They said it was already installed and they'd give it to me free. I got an extra brochure on it. If you pop your hood on the driver side you will see a hood sensor. Also it has a red light under the steering wheel and the bottom of the plastic by your feet. The brochure says you can adjust the shock sensor sensitivity by doing a series of steps and using the door unlock to lower and lock to increase it or something like that.
IF anyone wants more specifics let me know and I type up some of it or make copies.
Hope that help.
