Ford dealer says I need to pay $1200 for a boot seal...
Took my 2013 f150 fx4 into the dealer for a burning smell today. Turns out the boot on the front drive shaft (t-case to front differential) is torn and throwing grease onto the exhaust creating the sink.. According to my dealer you cannot buy this boot from ford and have to buy a complete front drive shaft for $850 .. This sounds ridiculous for just a torn boot. Is there any options available or do I have to suck it up and pay the $1200 to have a new shaft installed on my truck. HELP!

Boot repair kits are available, though don't know if they're available for the 2009+ F-150s.
Though in reality, if the boot has been compromised for any length of time the unit probably (?) has been jeopardised/contamimated.

Truck is still under factory warranty but boots are not covered under it.. It has only just started leaking grease recently so I would imagine it is still a candidate for replacement.

Since the boots are not serviceable that denotes the whole shaft being bad then the whole thing is bad.
Get in touch with Ford service on the boards here that is bull****.

I just fixed this on my bosses platinum. I had a cv place but a boot on the outside of the shaft. The original is actually on the inside. I am hoping it holds up it's close the the bolts but for 50 dollars it was worth a try. Here are some pics. i don't have a pic of the bolts tightened on. put they just miss the rubber boot.

If the boot seal is broken, but cannot be bought separately from the drive shaft, then the drive shaft itself is broken......
Try a different dealer.
