The Atlas concept is one bad boy truck and assures us that the new mpg regs aren't going to mean that we have to drive watered down versions of what we drive today. The GM folks must be already thinking redesign. At our local auto show there were 10 times as many folks crawling over the current production F150's as there was looking at the new GM's, though the ugly maroon paint didn't help..
I agree, trucks haven't become much more expensive since 1997 even, for what you get of coarse. Look at an STX or something, cloth power seats, windows, locks, CD player. That's it, in 2001 when I worked for ford that truck was 40,000 cad. That truck may be even less now.

I don't think we were assuming that ALL trim levels would be that high.

What I said it, I was speaking from an Atlas model point of view. With all of the gadgets, add ons, features, perks... If you factored all of it the 70k sticker wouldn't be a crazy number - not that people would expect to pay that - just that the new "Limited" could carry such a tag.

I'm sure that same appearance throughout the trim levels will be relative to their current value

If it doesn't hit 70k (which does seem high) I imagine the sticker in the high 60's being realistic.

I would agree that the new top line F150 will go up. Probably 3-10%, based on previous generations. That would put the new top line at $57,000-$60,000. Unless the put the new Transits diesel in it to match Ram. One can only hope!

Well fellows, I was looking at new Ford trucks the other day while I was having a tire replaced on my 2011 FX-4 and there was definitely sticker shock for this old poor boy. Trucks in the $50K range were common and one was listed at over $62K.

There was no argument about ALL the F-150's built around the Atlas costing $70K. The discussion centered around the Atlas as described would be in the $70K range. Historicall speaking, Ford will not put a truck exactly like the prototype on the market. Instead, it will be a watered down version and not be nearly as aggressive looking nor will it have all the bells and whistles. It may be called "Atlas" and no, it won't cost $70K...yet! Go back to 07 and look at the prototype "Super Chief." If not mistaken, the Super Duty was supposed to look like the Super Chief. Instead, the Super Duty looked more like a Volkswagen if you were comparing the two. If Ford puts a truck on the market that is exactly like the Atlas prototype, then a selling price around $70K would be realistic. Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I'll admit I only read about half the post. As usually some like it, some don't. I have an 05 and have been flirting with the idea of getting a "New" to me truck. My problem is I am not so keen on the 09 up style. I DO like the F-250/350 styling. but even a fairly new one cost as much as a new 150.. I saw this concept and totally like the look, everything about it. I do hope they put something close to this into production and keep it at a relatively decent sticker price. That is my .02.

If it stays the same, this will be my first truck I buy after college. What I like the best is the loading ramp already made into the truck.

The Atlas was not at milwaukee, only chicago I guess. And, they had the Silverado roped off. Other than the wide stance, the Siverado didn't look all that impressive. So much for seeing the Atlas in person. It would have been roped-off anyway.

This is an never ending story,
As the number of new car buyer keeps going up so to will the MSRP. The Pontiac Aztec and Buic Rendezvous are the only two, i know of, that had Lower prices at the end of a run. Thay corrected by 5 or 10 grand, not exsactly sure. The new car buyer is buying on lease and the three year old is financed for 60 months. Times have changed and money is cheap for today.

Figure out a new way to get what you want seems to be the answer??

Today one billion car and trucks are on the the roads of the world. Besides , Ford likes to see how much proffit they can make on one line to set there own records, lol. The 2004-2005 lincon navigator was the world most profitable suv that year. had to be at the meeting

I will be driving one as soon as it hits the show room floor. Then i'll see if I want to buy it. All the bright work might be too much work

I don't know what you people are saying that this thing looks like a Tundra or anything else for that matter.

This (hopefully thinly disguised) concept is clearly modeled after the newest Super Duty, especially in the front end.

I would guess the general shape ( profile is near identical to the current model) is going to stay and the dash design of the concept will stay. LEDs will be in there somewhere.

I hope the shutters go away. I an imagine how well they will work after the truck comes off a muddy construction site. More moving parts and electric motors mean more malfunctions as the years go by. Start / Stop means future trucks won't burble at idle the way they do now.

I like the looks, but not enough to even consider trading in my modded 09.

I want less gadgetry, but upgrade the stereo please and add a MANUAL transmission... anyone else??
