I was about to do this mod as well. Sorry OP for being my canary down the mine shaft.

I was going to tap the brown wire for parking lights on the driver side

That is helpful. I like the pin idea, however isn't it the same for me to touch the LED wire directly to the pin when the connector is apart? I tried this and got power to the led from the pins connected to the black wire (the same in above pictur) and the other one the gave me light was the yellow and orange wire. Problem with that one was it gave me constant power even after dome lights were out. My ground is good, I found the bolt everything else Is grounded too. That black wire seems to be the only one for the dome light. When it's cut and the connector is plugged in the dome is off. If I touch it it goes on. If I touch the led wire to the cut wire the led lights but as soon as I touch the other half of the cut wire the led goes out and the dome comes on??

That sort of makes sense. What would the work around be.

Without a schematic or using a VOM to test you can not be sure what the black wire does. My guess is it may provide ground for the circuit and the yellow and orange wires you mentioned provide constant power. Again, that is only a guess.

What I know, on my truck, when I tapped off of the purple wire in position 4, with the connector connected and took the ground from the screw previously mentioned, the LED lights when the dome light is on. I did not cut or tap any other wires going into or out of that connector.

Yup, I did the same thing. Found the right wire on some instructions for installing those illuminated door sills (I don't have them, but they tap into the same wire on the passenger side).

First I measured three LED strips: one for each front footwell, and a third that goes underneath the bottom lip of the center console to light up the rear seat area. I then measured the distance between the two front footwell strips as well as the distance between those strips to the one on the rear console. Spliced wire to the driver's footwell, then ran the wire behind the dash floor area with a coathanger and spliced it to the passenger footwell LED strip, and then ran wire from the rear console LED strip to the wire connecting the two footwell strips (with plenty of slack to hide the wire between the carpet and the console - it fits under the lip snugly), and then spliced it all up. Works great, lights the place up, and was easy to do.

so the consensus is to use the purple wire that comes out of the green connector? is an add-a-fuse necessary or just a simple cut, connect wire, tape up sufficient?

Cut, connect, and tape is all you need. Looking forward to tonight so I can check it out!

One other minor tip. I did not mount the lights until night time because I wanted to select a place for the lights that would not be directly visible when I opened the doors. On the drivers side it is along the console above the valance at your knee. The passenger side is on the floorboard vent. Ran the wires behind the glovebox to the kick panel.

Glad everything worked out for you.

I like this idea a lot.

DS - Where did you get your LED strips from?
