So a couple of weeks ago I began hearing a sound that I can only describe as water/fluid sloshing behind my dashboard on startup. I only hear it on initial start up and while the truck is at rest. I have tried to come to a hard stop or take a sharp turn to reproduce the sound but no go. The truck is running fine and I haven't noticed any differences performance wise, and there is no OBDII code popping up. truck is 2011 screw with 3.7 and 90xxx miles on it. Again nothing wrong performance wise but its bugging me nonetheless to hear it, call me paranoid. Any who was wondering if anybody had encountered something similar before and was willing to share some knowledge, thanks!

You're probably low on coolant. Its the heater core filling that's making the noise.

Not sure if this will help you but, last weekend I changed the coolant in my girlfriends G35. I took it for a ride afterward and there was a running water sound behind the dash for a few miles. According to her she hasn't heard it since (not like that means much).

Are you losing fluid or any air getting in the system?

Air pocket in the heater core, check your coolant level.

Thanks guys I check for any obvious water leaks in the cabin and didn't notice any at that time. Never even thought about checking coolant levels. Will check tomorrow and report back

If it's now leaking from the core, it's leaking somewhere else.

Update: Checked the coolant reservoir and not only was it low, it was dam near dry! I checked the fluid level maybe 10xxx miles ago and it was fine then. I was thinking of doing a flush and replacement any way, but before I do I had this question: is the low level normal due to the coolant showing its age, or is their a leak to address? In other words it normal for these trucks to loose coolant to evaporation and age? Silly question maybe just want to make sure I address any underlying issues

I live in FL and have always had some evaporation/loss of coolant in all my vehicles. Normally just a top off once or twice a year. The old lady drives about 9k a year and I think in a year she goes from max to min, that's on a G35 though. There were no visible leaks when I changed her coolant.

Unfortunately I can't speak for our trucks. I have either lost 0 coolant in the 2 years I've owned my truck, or the dealer is topping off.

I've been hearing a similar thing in mine (2012 XLT, 5.0) for about a week. I also noticed that the coolant level in the reservoir was low. I picked up a gallon of coolant on the way home from work and will put it in in the morning, so hopefully that will take care of it, and plan to keep an eye on the coolant level to see if it changes much over the next few weeks.
