Flex Fuel E85 on 2012 5.0
#12
New '12 4x4 s.crew lariat 5.0. First three tanks of regular (E10) yielded 18-19mpg. E10 cost $3.79. I'm half way through my first tank of E85, and running 16-17 per the computer. E85 cost $3.08. I don't notice a difference in how the engine behaves, nor in the exhaust sound.

Prob I have is with 85 is with my small engines, The Harley hates it, the Busa less so. I think they should offer e 10-15-85 in the midgrade and regular and leave the super grade as normal petroleum based gasoline for MC's, boats, and small engines.

I will say that the 5.4 got 11mpg consistently and the 5.0 is getting 16 with e85. I'll run a few more tanks through before i swear to the difference though. I put in my second tank tonight on my way home.

I recently purchased a 2012 Screw 4X4 with 3.73 gears. It has the Flex Fuel badge on the rear and according to the manual the 5.0 engine will run on E85. However when I open my fuel door I see a sign that says “No E85”. I did search the forum under Flex Fuel and E85 and did not find any answers. So I either have the Flex Fuel compatible engine, or I have a mislabeled gas filler icon behind the fuel door.
I understand that you get less MPG on E85 but slightly better performance. I wanted to try a tank of E85 so I would know what it’s like, but I want to be 100% certain it will run on it before I fill it up.

Try checking under your hood. I believe that there is a sticker which shows what type of emission conterol system is in the truck as well as appropriate fuels. I believe that this information is there. I thinks that it is on the bottom of the hood.
