Question Flex Fuel E85 on 2012 5.0

I recently purchased a 2012 Screw 4X4 with 3.73 gears. It has the Flex Fuel badge on the rear and according to the manual the 5.0 engine will run on E85. However when I open my fuel door I see a sign that says “No E85”. I did search the forum under Flex Fuel and E85 and did not find any answers. So I either have the Flex Fuel compatible engine, or I have a mislabeled gas filler icon behind the fuel door.

I understand that you get less MPG on E85 but slightly better performance. I wanted to try a tank of E85 so I would know what it’s like, but I want to be 100% certain it will run on it before I fill it up.

If you have a 5.0 then the back label is right and your gas door label is wrong.

Unless ford changed something mid year which I do not see happening.

My truck has a June build date, are all 5.0 engines Flex Fuel?

Ahhhh, forget that crap anyway. You should be able to run it in your 5.0L but I don't know why the hell anyone would want to.

for economy pruposes, I agree, who would want to run e85? from a performance standpoint though, man do I wish we had an E85 pump around me locally. I'd love to run a few tanks of E85 to see how much better and stronger the truck runs.

That's exactly what I want to do, I just want to see if I can tell a difference. There is one pump here in Utah that is close to me. It's also $3.95 per gallon, regular unleaded is $3.66. So it costs more it wont get me as many MPG compared to regular but I still want to try it out.

e85 used to be .85 cents a gallon Cheaper in the land of ethanol plants.... MN

With corn around $8.25 right now, the price gap has narrowed to about $.50 a gallon.

It's not worth it till the price gap widens again.

I would guess the filler cap is wrong, but you can call Ford directly our the dealer and ask.

I only get 13 mphs on E85, but this engine wakes, and is beasty. It had a growl, and will spin the tires shifting to second WOT even with the traction control nanny on.

That would be awesome! At my altitude of nearly 5,000 feet, I don't get as much HP as the sea level guys.
