I told my buddy about it and he has had the trailer 2 years and has never even checked the air pressure. Both of us are lucky! Anyway, part of me wanted to actually load up the Teryx again but Im not that ambitious. Like I said, I will know when I tow my Mustang this summer on a car hauler. Also, the trailer I used to get the Teryx was a 16ft not 14ft as I stated. When we unhooked from my truck and hooked to his, he commented how much his Chevy Z71 with 5.3 struggles pulling just a Polaris RZR. His truck squats with just the trailer.
I love to gamble and I would bet the tires on his Chevy are low also. Any takers?

Yeah, but it was downhill, both ways!!!!

Unless someone is complaining about the mileage their pickup gets I don't believe them. With 1500 miles on my 13 Eco with 3:55s I averaged 15.8 on the interstate yesterday driving 75 mph with a cross wind. I'm pretty disappointed with the mileage right now. I'm starting to think these guys who are getting 19+ are driving 55 with absolutely no wind.

With the same pickup I did get 13.4 pulling my enclosed 7x14 trailer with one snowmobile in it with no wind and the next day 9.5 with one more sled another guy, and gear into a 20 mph wind. In the wind I ran the pickup locked out of 6th most the time and it handled it fine. Pulling with my dad's 6.7 diesel probably would have yielded 10-11 in the wind without having to lock out of 6th.

It will do it with ease! I was going to post my experience and looked up my old thread of my first time towing with my truck. You even posted in it!

You have to consider what you are doing with the truck when towing. Of course the truck didn't pull like a freight train, but as the owner of many half ton trucks with v8 power, the 5.0 suits my needs and in no way lacks the power to get the job done. At no time did I feel underpowered. No exaggeration, just experience. Jeep weighs 3520 lbs dry as can be. Add 20 gallons of fuel, spare parts, tools (hand tools, saws, drill, compressor, basically anything to fix my rig on the trail), ice chest, camping gear, firewood, generator, etc... Then add a 2,000 lbs car trailer. The trailer and the jeep weigh almost 6,000 lbs alone. Add one dog, one very attractive woman, and a camper shell. It adds up quickly. And to confirm, that was 12.6 mpg.

My supercrew fx4 5.0 with 9,000 miles regularly gets 19 at 65-70 mph. Just did a long highway trip and averaged 18.8 at 72, 17.8 at 75, and 16.2 at 85. Those numbers were gathered over 100 mile flat stretches at the given speeds.

Your motor simply isn't broken in yet. My fathers supercrew lariat 5.0 was getting 13-14 average until about 2,000 miles. At 6000 miles it is averaging 18 mpg. Down the highway it will reach 20 mpg.

Better believe it will get 12mpg with 8000# in tow. The few time I've lugged my skidsteer so far my 5.0L get right around 12mpg on gradual rolling hills but I only tow trailers at 65mph MAX. I just hauled it up to the cabin and back last weekend, 102miles round trip, and used 8.5 gallons of gas which is 12mpg on the nose running 60mph with only a few stop signs along the way. 3 place open deck sled trailer with 3 sleds puts me at ~14mpg @ 60mph, 12mpg @ 60mph if I put the big 4' tall v-nose slush gaurd on the front. Wind resistance makes more difference than trailer weight. Hell, I hauled 3000# of steel plate on my sled trailer and only noticed a .5mpg drop over an empty trailer, 17.5mpg round trip on that haul as I had the front ramps off the trailer so there was very little resistance. The real test this summer will be the Pontoon boat, that thing pushes wind and my poor 4.6L Mountaineer struggled to get 10mpg towing that giant wind blocker.

Isn't the hitch with trailer tow package rated at 6000 lbs? At 5500 lbs I can't see the truck being able to handle more weight. I had a lot of sag.

Right in the manual and on the hitch receiver.

Weight Bearing: 5,000 lbs towing/500 lbs tongue weight
Weight Distribution: 10,500 lbs towing/1,050 lbs tongue weight
