Default First Scheduled Service

Got an email from the dealer to bring in my 2014 F150 XLT 5.4 L for service on 10/15. Truck will be in service for 6 months on that date, and will have approx. 4,000 miles. There are no malfunctions at this time.
What should I expect dealer to do? Anything I should ask to be done? Is there a Sync update for the dealer to do?
Thanks for any suggestions !

I suggest you read your manual. You'll learn that there is NO SERVICE needed at 6 months. Your first oil change is at 10,000 miles, 1 year, or when your system tells you - whatever comes first.

You can log onto your Sync account and verify you are current on Sync.

Oh, and when you're at the dealer sometime, read their board of "recommended services" and compare it to your manual. Shockingly you'll find all sorts of stuff you don't need to ever do ("flush the air in your tires", "rotate your windshield wipers", "change the washer fluid in your tank"...).

I've followed the recommendations in my manual for every vehicle that I've ever owned and had great success.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe 2014s have the 5.4 L engines. I'd double check the info you got from the dealer and then reference your owners manual before you do anything.

It's good for people to read a thread like this and realize the dealer is in business to sell you vehicles, parts and service.

We all know how they like to rip people off on the vehicle sales. MSRP includes a healthy profit for the dealer, never mind their mark ups.

Parts are usually way overpriced. Don't ever buy parts from a dealer unless you absolutely can't avoid it.

And service, well, they will often tell unsuspecting owners they need to perform all sorts of unnecessary service procedures. There's a fine line between taking good care of your vehicle and getting fleeced.

Most dealers stay way on the other side of that line and fleece as many people as they can.

Hi GringoEd,

I can answer your SYNC questions! Ricktwuhk is correct. You can check your Owner account for software updates: Owner.Ford.com Once your logged in, select the SYNC & HOW TOS tab then select CHECK FOR SOFTWARE UPDATES.

I hope this helps.

GringoEd,
if you bought your truck new I hope your not waiting 6 months before your first oil change.
If so, good idea to change oil and filter.

Why not? First oil change is not recommended for 10,000 miles, or a year, or when the system tells you - whichever comes first. Changing it sooner is a waste of money. Some stubborn people do it, but it is totally unnecessary per Ford.

That's why they tell you to READ THE MANUAL.
