Got my first oil change @2200 miles. I just wanted any metal particles from break-in to be flushed out. Call that overkill but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Besides the first oil change was free anyways

Next change will be at 5,000 miles - on the stealer for free!
What is this "break-in" oil you speak of?

My first oil change was at 9600 miles. Done only because the OLM said 2% life left just to preserve the warranty. Testing indicated the oil was well within 5w20 specification (I have a 5.0) for viscosity and had a TBN of 8.4. Along with the other indicators the factory oil would have been good probably out to 15k miles at the least, based on my engine and driving habits. Tested a friends Ecoboost and his oil was strong at 5k miles then did a lot of short stop and go for 2000 miles. Not only did the OLM indicate he was nearing need for a change, down to 12% I believe but the lab returned a TBN of 1.9. However the oil was still within grade and serviceable. He had it changed anyway.

All that said the fact is this: Old school is fine and doesn't hurt anything to change it when you want, but the the oil in your truck is no longer old school.

The viscosity may still be good but it doesn't mean it's not dirty.

And? In general that is what the TBN is reporting, how much more ability the oil has to resist the effects of combustion. There are other factors but dirty oil doesn't automatically mean it's bad oil.

I changed my oil at 900 miles, and for those first 900 miles I drove her nice and hard. I'm just old school in the aspect of the rings need to see full pressure as soon as possible to get the best possible wear patterns and seal. Lots of experienced race car mechanics will attest to this.

After the initial 900 mile oil change I plan to run it 3500-5000 depending on how hard the truck works. I will also do used oil analysis every 10,000 miles.

As for the oil change, I don't trust anyone but myself. I ended up using Castrol Edge with Titanium 5w-30 and a Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil filter.

Make sure if your buying your own filter you look in the manual for the part number. I went down to the auto parts store and the part they recommend is the FL-500S... which is about an inch shorter than the OEM filter. OEM filter number for the 13 EB is FL-500. Mobil 1 part number is M1-212

I was going to replace the oil at 600 miles like I have for all the other vehicles I've ever owned, but the dealer service manager said I should wait until the oil monitor was at 5%; any earlier was not recommended ...

Over my head perhaps, but if dirty oil isn't bad, what is the purpose of the filter? Not being argumentative, people can change oil whenever they want or not change it at all, but the dirty oil is cool comment threw me off. Lol
