First dash rattle, what to do?
Well, now that deer season is upon us I'm taking the '10 FX4 down some woolier paths and dirtier roads. I've notice now that I have a dash rattle seemingly on the drivers side behind the instrument panel. Of course it seems dependent on the outside temperature it may come and go and it only rattles when I hit a bump. Question is what the heck do I do? I absoutely can't stand rattles. I can be listening to the radio but I still hear the rattle.
Has anyone dealt with this? WOuld I be able to trust the dealer no not make things worse? Thanks all...I know this is not a big deal but I at least want to wait a couple years on a 40K+ truck to show signs of age.

I am with you on that! These trucks are great for "no" rattles. I would take it to the dealer tell them where the noise is coming from, and make them fix it.
I built your dash more than likely!
Lower the wheel all the way down. Remove the 2 7mm screws in the trim that goes around the cluster, they are on the top. The bottom just snaps in. Once thats removed the gauge cluster has 4 more screws and one plug holding it in. You should be able to look around and maybe get a hand in back there at that point to see whats makin the noise.
I cant think of anything back there that would rattle since everything is plastic back there. There is only the wire harness and the duct work behind the cluster. It could be something to do with where the steering column bolts to the steel frame or the shifter cable.

I hunted down my rattle ( Drove me nuts) and even though it sounded like the dash, it was actually the hood hinges rubbing against some black styrofoam. I put a little grease where the hinge was touching the styrofoam and now I have peace and quiet. Hope the helps.
