Firestone = HORRIBLE work
Took my truck to a Firestone over on Nellis AFB today. Its a bit out of the way but there were a few things at the BX I wanted to pick up. They told me it would be about an hour until they could get me in. I said that's fine. Came back an hour and a half later, 3 of the 4 bays are empty and my truck hasn't been touched yet. They drive it in just as I walk in and ask about the status of it. 45 min later they finish the oil change. Driving down the road I start to see white smoke coming from the engine. Im thinking they just dripped some, no big deal. About 30 seconds later I get a phone call asking me to drive back onto base because where my truck was parked they found a pool of oil. When I get back and pop the hood I see my engine is covered in oil...now I'm pissed. Turns out they left an old oil filter gasket in the oil filter bracket. They said it happens a lot and when it does it causes a leak. I've been driving for 15 or so years and have NEVER had this happen. They were trying to blame it on the guys at the last Firestone on Buckley, saying they didn't remove it. Well you didn't check! If this is something that happens a lot why wouldn't you check for it?? So They change the oil, again. Take about another 20 min to de-oil my engine and about an hour total I'm back on the road. I get home and I see the smoke again, thinking ok. For sure this time its just left over oil burning off. I go check an hour later and I find a pool of oil under my truck and I can see oil dripping from the drain plug. ARE YOU F#%KING KIDDING ME!? I reached up and was able to move it with just my fingers, lucky it didn't fall out while I was driving! I pulled out my sockets, tightened it up and called the store. They ask if I can come back in and they will stay to fix it. Well its a 30 min drive from where I live to that store. So they called a store 2 miles from me and told them to expect me. When I get there, they were like yeah, I guess the oil filter is bad? I'm like no. Told them the story, showed them pictures and video of the oil dripping. They said they would do a 100% oil change and clean the engine like it was theirs. An hour and a half later they were done. While I hated waiting that long the store manager kept talking to me, kept checking on my truck and was making sure it was done right. Just the overall of it though, it shouldn't take 6hrs out of ones day for a simple 30 min oil change. From now I will be doing these myself. I've written 2 letters of complaint to 2 different customer service areas I found for Firestone. Tried to make a complaint on the BBB but couldn't find the store I was at. When I tried to enter it manually it wouldn't let me. I realize it could have been worse. They are lucky it wasn't. And not that I'm looking for handouts, but I wasn't even offered a free oil change for my inconvenience or offered a refund on the oil change.
Thats ridiculous. I work in the oil change business. The gasket they are talking about is the oil filter gasket. There is no way the last place could have removed it because it had to be in place to seal that oil filter. They can stick to the filter baseplate, but at Valvoline where i work, we have a ridiculous amount of double checks and second parties to prevent this. Just sounds like a lazy tech and a bs excuse to me.
A buddy of mine had his oil changed at Firestone once. They didn't put any oil back in the engine. Of course, it was August in south Texas so it imploded. Firestone bought him a new engine.

I will be doing my own oil changes from now on or if Im feeling lazy go to the Ford dealer just down the road. I just need to figure out where to take my old oil to for safe deposit. A buddy said a lot of places like Auto Zone or Pep Boys will give you some kind of oil pan and when its full you just bring it to them and they get rid of it.
