No you don't have to. Most people argue that you do blah blah HIDs blind people in reflector housing. That's a whole different argument and I'm not getting into that. Point is HID bulbs WILL fit all you need is ballasts and a relay for the high beams. I like the color of the HIDs and that's why I did them in mine...and I have never been flashed for blinding other drivers there is a little adjustment wheel on top of the headlight housing

Best thing I did and get the best of both worlds! I run the amber covers 99% of the time and then I can take them off for really crazy light! I run mine on all the time and just used them in fog last night and love them. For the cost you can't go wrong. Not sure what the other guy was talking about but they don't cut the output very much at all, they will still light the world up just in an amber hue!

Is there someplace else on the rear of the truck to mount a set of these lights? besides the rear shackles? i went through the whole thread and only found one with picture that explained it aswell. I like these I'd like to pick up a set for the rear and a bar for the bull bar I just picked up today

Looks great man, I wanted to do that same thing. Did you do it yourself or did you have a shop do it? I don't know if I have the ***** to chop up my bumper lol. If you did it yourself I would like to know what you put on the raw metal area where you were cutting after the install. The bumper wouldn't last long here with out it being protected after

But then again for bad weather and fog you don't want crazy bright light.

I painted the bare edges with laquer touch up paint. After it dried I taped off the area slightly smaller than the light and plastidipped the crap out of it, front and back. I'm confident rust won't be an issue, salt does not get used too often here in Virginia. I think it would hold up in the north as well.

I agree that they are still pretty bright with the covers on, but I like it at max light out put rather than taking those covers on and off. They don't help me in snow, rain or fog and Really don't like the look either, just stating my opinion. These covers serve no purpose for me.

Hmmm, strange that they don't help in those situations because that's what the amber color is designed to be used for. Amber or yellow are for those situation specifically as they cut through vs bounce off, that's why you see them run on pre runners and trophy trucks. The other competitors can see them and it cuts through the dust. To each his own but I know that having amber covers work better than not in those situations.
Man I do live that light bar in the bumper hole! I need to pony up for that!

yea man that's where the serious light comes from! If you go for it though I would recommend just the spot pattern not the combo, I wasn't thinking when I bought mine because I bought the d2s for my fogs and the bar at the same time and as you know the d2s or even the duallys provide more than enough light to the sides on their own so the wide pattern on the bar is kinda wasted light. Maybe il give the covers another go, but I wasn't impressed with the light out put with them on. I get the concept on the amber but It didn't help me when I had them on. The covers will probably go good with my retro fitted headlights by bilinvic with Amber halos. Il have to play with my options when I get them in I guess.
Yeah, I have the sterling grey so the ambers blend well. I could see how they would stand out a bit much on another color.
I also want retros, just gotta save. Lol
