I want to mount the SR 30" behind the grill. Looks like the cleanest Install.

Hey guys, new to the forum and have the Rigid bug. I have mounted 2 of the Dually's on the rear shackles and wired them to a in cab switch and reverse wire of trailer plug. I just order a 30" SR bar which will be in Wednesday. There are not many options on mounting but have decided to cut out the top section of my grill and mount there. I'm going to bolt with fabricated adapters to the two metal braces behind the grill. So essentially it will be inside the grill coming out the front. Does anyone have any expereince with this? Will it make my hood too heavy since it will travel with the hood and grill when opening. thoughts advice??
I have the FX4 2013 model so the grill has large openings at the top, middle and bottom. The top opening seems best as it is the highest but also it doesnt appear to be directly in front of the radiator so it should block any air.
Many thanks Danny

Hi,
I'm interested in doing the D2 mod in my 2013 factory fog housings. Did you tap into existing wiring from factory fogs and just modify the fitment (round factory for square dually) Does the factory wiring and fog relay work fine with rigid units, you didn't have to replace any wiring or relays from the factory? I assume it works off factory fog switch which can but turned to turn on automatically with the headlights. And lastly did you use spot or flood? I'm wanting to have them on every time I'm driving like I currently do with my factory fogs, not sure if the spots or floods will be too blinding.
Thank you
Danny

I just spliced mine into the factory wiring and mounted the duallies just like others in this thread. They draw less current than the factory lights so you are more than ok running them on factory wires and relays. I aim mine down slightly so they don't blind oncoming and run them all the time, work great.

I also ordered a SR-30" from Tap Auto over the weekend to go behind the grill. Hoping to burn the shadow image of the deer by our house into the ground, never have too many lights when they are out moving...

Thank you Tap auto, great to deal with so far and can't beat the prices and honesty.

Great, thanks for the info!
I'll tap into the factory wires by splicing the plug from factory lights onto the Dually's.
are you planning on mounting the SR completely behind the grill?
I think that would be easiest but I can't help but think that mounting them coming through the grill flush to the outside will look good. I know many like the stealth look of being hidden behind but I kind of want you to see the whole top of the grill with a 30" row of LED's going across it.
I have the 2013 2 bar grill so it will make it unique.
I'll definitely post pics once done so others can consider

I love being able to tap into everyone's experiences so all our upgrades are not ALL trial and error.

What's the best way to install a 20" light bar in the lower grille? How does it mount?

I like you tailgate lightbar! How was it to install? Do you have any clearance problems, when the tailgate is in the open position? Thanks

Very nice truck mate, you are keeping it clean for sure. I dont want to do the 20" bad in the lower grill as I have a boost and want to keep air flowing good. That and I already installed a grill guard in that lower space as seen in the low light picture. Plus the 30" in the top grill space will put the lights more even with my high beams which is how I will use them, tied together. I've already mounted a another switch in the cab to also use them manually like I did my back-up lights. I'll share my finished product wed-Thur once I receive the light bar from the big brown truck.
