Fender Flares Rust Magnets?
I've been thinking of adding flares to my truck. A buddy of mine with a Chevy had bushwacker flares on for about a year and a half, and took them off the other day when he went back to stock tires and rims. To say his truck is screwed is to put it mildly. Bother rear fenders are rusted almost clean through. His truck is an 09, and it IS a chevy, but at 4-5 years, there should not be any where near this much cancer. Is this normal?

first off, to ur buddy: www.youtube.com/watch?v=rX7wtNOkuHo
2nd, not sure on the stock ones like on the FX4 & such. the stainless steel trim they put on back in the 80s & 90s hold water & crap, so Dad has some rust caused by those. Haven't seen any issues with the ones running around here so far, & I live in a salt belt state myself.

I know that most fender flares come with a seal so there's no possibility for the water to get in. For my fenders, I used 3M tape on the inside of the seal and sealed them to my rig.

Well, he's got bigger problems now. He has a Readylift 4" lift and snapped an upper A arm on the interstate yesterday going 70. Sad part about that is my truck is higher stock then his was lifted. Readylift is paying for the tow and damage. Not liking his Chev very much at this point me thinks..

the only right way to install flares is to use a high quality double sided foam tape to seal the entire top edge where it meets the fender. I've seen lots of damage from flares that just "clamp" to the fender using pressure from the mounting screws that will eat through the paint in a few years.
