MPG is unfair to judge in the dead of winter.

The winter fuel mix along with cold temps and letting the truck warm up makes for AWFUL MPGs. Just wait for summer you'll be much happier.

My advice? Turn the display screen to something else. I too have been infuriated by the wild fluctuations in stated fuel economy on my dash and found myself consumed with driving like a senior in an effort to better the numbers. I found myself yelling whenever I'd hit a red light, lol.

I've never gotten the advertised fuel economy unless driving for an extended time frame on a highway using cruise control.

Much happier (and sane) now that I don't have to look at it.

Can you have the display default to, say, the compass?

You can set it to start up w/ a different screen but all of the screens that show distance to empty show MPG... it is just annoying. I also have found myself driving like wuss trying to get better MPG. I did not buy the truck for great MPG but I hate getting slapped in the face with an average of less than 14 when I am TRYING to drive to get better MPG and I am staying off the skinny pedal. It is frightening to think how bad it would be if I drove it more like I want to...

Your truck's MPG will improve greatly when it warms up, the MPG's you state are normal for the cold weather. I live in Missouri and get about what you get.

If it makes you feel any better over the last 8K miles I averaged 18.8 MPG.

Idling is a killer. I figure that 10 mins of idling is about 6-8 miles lost. Idle for 30 minutes a tank, and that's a loss of 1mpg over a 26 gallon tank. Here's my 4.6 V8 over the last 4 years.

I have put my display on the compass. Been two months now, and I couldn't be happier not knowing that silly number that we call MPG's. I will check it again when the weather warms. It has been a real treat driving this truck without a care about MPG's.

Give it a try for a week, and see how much more you enjoy your truck!

This is what I figured I would hear. I love the truck, but was just hoping for a little more efficiency. Northern Jersey is full of hills, traffic and red lights so my 15 mile commute takes anywhere from 30 minutes to hour plus in the morning afternoons are usually 35-50 minutes on highways with stop lights and county roads. My milage is right between my last two trucks Dodge Durango 14mpg and Toyota Tacoma 16mpg. But this truck has the most power by far!
