I have the bull ring pop up tie down anchors and you can see some buckling from over tightening in the side rails and even on my Roll X..

I thought of some of those pop-up units, but looking in the stake hole, its only reinforced at the very bottom. It didnt look to me that there was much for any insert unit to "bite" on. I suppose thats why it distorted the parts next to it.

I only plan on light loads on these cleats, just enough to keep taller items from falling over. If they need to be "strapped" I will use the cargo cleats in the bed and these upper ones are back up and tip over insurance

OK, so I went and got the rope I plan on using when I tie off to these cleats. I was very pleasantly surprised. That particular part of the bed is surprisingly strong. I too was concerned about the thin metal on these trucks, but because its in the corner and there is some additional stiffening due to the stake supports I can tie that rope off as tight as I want to and nothing even hints on moving, buckling or anything. Its a rock.

So I know most of you wont drill hole, and dont want anything like this. But if you do think its right for your needs, Im here to tell you....PLENTY STRONG

doesn't look out of place, hope they work, and they make your truck look happier. they smile at people!!

Well, its been a couple weeks since the install. I only used them once and they seemed sturdy. The point to this post is that I have had zero negative comments and all positive comments by fellow truck owners. Not that it matters to me , because I like them, and they are useful to me. But it is nice to be able to take off the flame proof suit.

I couldn't get a picture but I saw a 04-08 f150 a couple weeks ago with four huge boat cleats on each side of the bed and they were the kind that didnt fold down. They just ruined the truck.

Ok, speed tested today. Tied this chair securely with the side hooks and at @ 70 mph it didn't move. This particular piece probably would have done ok with the lower cleats inside the truck, but It would have needed more tension because lines would not be opposite the force of the wind, so the upper cleats were actually nicer to the furniture.

No buckling of the sidewall as someone predicted. And I could untie the chair easily from out side the bed.

I think you drastically lowered the private party resale of your truck.

Sorry brother, looks crappy and isn't that much more secure wise than the pocket ones. I have the bullrings and they are stored out of sight when not in use.

If you get the real deal, they catch the under side of the pocket that is super strong. I've used my ratchet straps and held some good loads with them.

I would be worried about paint and plastic cap being rubbed by ropes and straps during transport possible harming them.

I agree though that its your truck and if you're happy then that's all that matters.

OK, its been a year and a half. I use these things all the time transporting lightweight furniture. They look and work just as good as the day they were installed and no damage to any part on the truck. NONE!

I know its a personal thing, but (obviously) other people want the same thing because I see other trucks with the cheap ones from AutoZone on them, all rusty and crappy. These are a quality piece, so if anyone wants to do it, Im just posting this to say, it didn't go bad. They work

I don't care about resale, I keep my trucks 20 years or so
