Thumbs up Factory stereo upgrade

Howdy! I have a 2012 screw with the Sony "upgraded" system. To me, this system sounds terrible. I am going to try the poly fill of the sub first, but doubt it helps much bc of the factory roll off. To give an idea of what I'm looking for sound wise, I had a 15 platinum and thought the factory setup was more than adequate. I would love to have carplay, but from what I have read the 2012 can't be upgraded to newer sync unit. After hours of reading through old threads of the forum, here's what I'm thinking about doing-
New front 6.5 speakers- https://www.crutchfield.com/p_109CL6....html?tp=78072
Get rid of sony sub and add either a behind the seat loaded kicker 10, or buy a loaded sub that will fit under the passenger back seat.

My Questions:
1. Will the factory Sony amp drive these speakers okay? I looked at the alpine upgrade with parrot harness, but does not seem to be for my truck.
2. What sub setup would you go with?
3. Can I use one of the front door speaker wires as a line input for the sub?

Do you use forscan? You can stop the rolloff, at least.
  1. You should get better sound just by replacing the speakers. My Kappa 4x6s have more bass than the Sony sub.
  2. Haven't, but would probably get one of the powered Kickers that would fit under the seat. I'm not sure that 10 you mentioned will fit behind it.
  3. There's already a signal wire. If you aren't upgrading the entire system, you can just use the one for the Sony. You would need to run power.

Appreciate the response @Spiky I just got the cable in the mail for forscan, so will give that a shot. That's good news on using the factory signal wire, will make it easy! I have a thread up from @jdunk54nl that will help with forscan. Power from the battery seems easy enough to pull on our trucks. Maybe I will try the forscan update along with new front speakers and poly fill the sub before I buy a new sub setup.

Note that wire is amplified, so it would need to be connected properly to a new amp.

Thanks for the heads up @Spiky ! I'm in hopes the forscan, front door speaker update, and the poly fill in the sub will avoid having to go that route. I let Crutchfield talk me into buying these Infinity's for the front:https://www.crutchfield.com/p_108R86...FX.html?tp=105
I will keep this thread updated on how things work out, in case somebody like me comes across it.

Got the front speakers replaced and put some poly fill in the factory sub today. System is much improved with these simple changes. In fact, I don't think I need to do anything further for my purposes. I have not made any changes to the forscan settings. I forgot to disconnect the tweeters while I had the panels off. So would like to do that and disconnect the center dash speaker at some point.

Wanted to add one more thing. I was thinking about buying the door panel covers you rivet in for this job that the forum vendor offers. When I got the door cards off, I realized my doors had the part covered from the factory. Might be a Sony system with touch screen thing, who knows?

If you need to unhook the tweeters, you can just pop off the 2 side panels and find the wire connector right there. Doesn't even need a trim tool. For the center, need a screwdriver.
