Default Factory Remote Start Help Needed

Hi Gang,

I bought a bunch of parts from a 2014 Limited that was wrecked. One of those was the remote start module located above of the glove box. I installed that module in my 2013 XLT SCREW along with the Factory trailer brake controller. I have the keys from the 2014 but I need to get new ones cut. In the meantime I asked the dealer if they could turn on the brake controller and the remote start. They told me up front the remote start wouldn't work because I'm missing pieces. I explained the only pieces I'm missing is the keys. They argue that some other box is needed by the OBDII. Apparently when they go into the IDS they can't enable it, or at least that's what they told me. And they said the 100 series kit comes with an extra part that I don't have, I've seen nothing of this "extra part" on the interwebz and a billion successful installs by everyone else on here. What am I missing?

Only Part needed to enable it is the remote start antenna in the glove-box and an active remote start key. From my understanding, The IDS procedure requires them to remote start the vehicle successfully before it applies the changes, if it is not remote started the IDS reverts the changes. So you will need at least one active Remote Start enabled key in order to have the Remote Start enabled.

Thanks for this information Soaringfalcon, I'll look into getting a key cut with the correct electronics and try again. I appreciated it. I wish I had my own IDS system...

There are two different kits, there may have been confusion between the OE style remote start kit (start button built into key), and the 100 series long range kit (start button on separate remote).

The OE style kit integrated into key does just have an antenna and keys.
You still might have some issues.

The OE keys with remote start will not work with the accessory module, I know this from experience. If the 2014 had the accessory module, you will need to order BC3Z-19G364-A to get keys. Or you can pull the blades out of the 2014 keys and get replacement ones that glue into the fob, which you can then cut to your proper key code.

Can you confirm if the 2014 had factory or accessory remote start? If you shoot me the VIN, I can tell you.

Thanks bud. The truck was a 2014 Limited. I don't have the VIN, could get it from the JY I'm sure if you think it'd be helpful, but it had the remote start with the 4 button remote, built into the key, not the add-on fob. I can't seem to find replacement key blanks for these as the key is molded into the backing (I tore one apart)

I bought an OEM remote start kit. It requires you to have a separate piece installed in the engine bat, some vehicles have it already. Look up the install instructions and you will see what I mean. Check if you have that.

Yeah, that's the one. Fortunately my truck already had it, so it was an easier process for me. I never would have known about it had the instructions I read first didn't mention it.
